I herchy declare the following: to hen ii, clear and exact (lcscription the inven on, ouch as will enable milled in to which it pertains make the same.
This invention relates to improvements rims for steering-Wheels of automobiles.
One object of this invention to provide a Wheel-rim of the character inclicateii which is exceedingly handsome in :zppearaiice.
Another object is to have the \Fl'iQE-Bl l'lifi simple and durable in coiiistruction.
With these objects View, thie invention consists in certain features of constructioin and combinations and arrangement of carts hereinafter described, pointed on in the claim, and illustrated in the acconipanyiilg drawings.
In the said drawings, Figure 1 a. plan View of a wheel-rim embodying; my invention. Fig. 2 a side View of the rim. Fig. 3 is a central vertical section. on ne 33, Fig. 1, looking in the direction imli h the arrow. Fig. i is; a vertical section on line i 4 ig. 1., looking outwardly. I) a vertical section on line 5 5, 1, looking outwardly. Fig. 6 is a bottom plan of the rim, and in this figure a portion of the bottom section. of the rim is broken awayto more clearly Show the construction.
My improved Wheel-rim comtmises an annular wooden top section A, ancl an. annular wooden bottom section The sections A and. B are arranged. directly oppositely and glued or cemented together in any normed. manner. The section A (see Fig. 3) is provirlcil at its lmttom and centrally between the inner and, outer siclcs oi. the Wheel-rim with an annular recess (1 arranged antially concentrically relative to the Wheelrim. and the bottom section B (ace l 8) is provided at the top thereof and. central between the inner and outer sidoe of the Wheel-rim with an annular recess i; i(
substantially concentric relative to the wheeloim. The recesses a and I) register.
An annular 'WOOflGD section C coniposocl preferably of tough Wood, such, for instance,
'ol. the top anal. hot
arranged substantiallv concentrically relative to the top and Bottom sections A. anci and coneeqoentiv anl stantiaily concentrically relative to the wheelrim. The interior section C of the Wheehrim is gluetl cemented in one an proved manner to the Walls. ot the reheee es a and. I). The said interior section conpreferably or single Wooden piece b nt circularly and halved together at iti; enola as at it; {see 6), which ends are glued or cemented together in any approval manner.
The top and bottom sections A and B are each shown. composed of our segmental wooden pieces of handsome or attractive n. which pieces are arranged end to end a -(l concentrically relative to the Wheel-rim, anci g in figs. l and 6 inciicates the grain of the wootlt l .2? catee the iciot between adjacent the top lion 1, and y represents join; between jaccnt pieces the hot- .ion'li, and it will he observed that: 'g/ oi. the bottom section alternate with the joints a: oi the top Section.
P; bly each segmental piece oi both the top and bottom sections i l. ant l is proc at coil with a substantially vrecess Which extends into the Silltl p e in the, clireet'on oi. other end of the eaii'l niece, ana is :lornied between the. top and i) o-iii, of the eaicl piece and engaged by the at cent and of the adjacent seeii'icntai piece of the same section, and the lastcal displace it ends of the said oriental pieces 1;; prevented. Y
A. not unimportant feature of my inven tion consists in having each segmental piece nn sections A and B (ft-fillilllfitl tlfl the interior section C which is therefore la; 'ely instrumental in retaining ell ot' the segmental, pieces of the top and bottom sections in place.
lily the construction hereinhefore (le- "a'ihei'i it Will he ohsci'veii that my improved Wheel-rim is cxceci'linglywlurahie in conairuction and he .(lsonie in a ii iiearance.
In whecl-rim oi" the character indicated, oppositely arranged top anti bottom annular men t if" Mil Wooden sections provicieti with registering annular recesses arranged. centrally of and suDst-antmhy cencentnceliy relative to the Wheel-rim; and an interior annular Woocien sect-ion engaging said recesses and arranged substantially concent icelly re; five to the top and bottom 'ections, seid interic-ic sec tion being composeti of a single circuiarly bent wooden piece which has its encls cemented together, the top and bottom sections being each composed of several weocien segmental pieces arranged end to end and concentrically relative to the wheel-rim, the segmental pieces of the top section being cemented to the segmental pieces of the botlessees joints formed between the of the bottom section alterjoints formed between the top section, and ail the top and be'ctem to the aforesaid inthe Wells 01". the
ten"; sectionp'ie segmentei pieces mating with the segmentai pieces ef-the the segmental pieces of sections being cemented tel'ior section along all aforesaid recesses.
In testimony whei-eof, I sign the fore going specification, in the presence of two Witnesses.
