MAUSOLEUM.
To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, PHILIP lV. SmvnR'r, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dayton, in the county of Montgomery and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful lmprovements in Mausoleums; and l do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

The object of the invention is to provide a mausoleum of simple construction which is moisture proof, in which the bodies may be interred in hermetically sealed crypts and which provides means for carrying olf any gases that may arise from the bodies and escape from the crypts due to imperfections in sealing the crypts.
Referring to the accompanying drawings Figure l is a vertical lateral section through one series of crypts of the complete mausoleum the same being on the line a-a of Fig. E2.; Fig. 2 is a horizontal section on the line J-Z) of Fig. l; and Fig. 3 is a front eleva tion of the crypts.
ln the accompanying drawings, I have illustrated only one side of one wing of the mausoleum but it will be understood that all sides of all wings are similarly constructed.
Referring more particularly to the drawings l-l represents an outer foundation which supports the wall of the mausoleum. The said wall consists of an outer portion H constructed of granite and an inner por tion l constructed of concrete. Also supported on the foundation H is an inner concrete wall K which, together with the outer wall, forms a vertical air passageway J which communicates with the atmosphere at the bottom through ports G in the wall H-l. The ports G may be provided with any well known type of grid. The air passageway J communicates with the atmospliere at the top through ports N by way ef a chamber R. rlhe chamber R lies between the roof formed of an inner portion Q and an outer portion P and a slab R one edge of which rests upon the inner wall K. The mausoleum is provided with a floor E Specication of Letters Patent.

which forms the bottom of the lowermost crypts, and a floor E for the corridor of the mausoleum. Beneath the floors E and E are chambers S and S which communicate through ports S in an inner foundation wall H. The chamber S communicates with the atmosphere through ports G and a port F in the inner wall K. The chambers R, S and S, the ports N, G, F and n and the air passageway d are instrumental in maintaining a circulation of air through the mausoleum, thereby preventing the accumu lation of moisture.
Extending laterally from the inner wall K a plurality of vertical division walls K which are connected by a plurality of hori- Zonta-l shelves L. The walls K and the shelves L form a plurality of crypts in which the bodies are deposited. The rear ends of the crypts are formed by the inner wall l while the front ends are adapted to be closed by inner slabs D and outer slabs B. At the time the bodies are placed within the crypts they are accompanied by suitable chemicals which are instrumental in their desiccation. To permit the excessive accumulation of moisture within the crypts to be drained therefrom, the rear wall K is provided, at the lower rear portion of each crypt, with drain ports M which communicate with vertical tubes L, mounted in the wall K. The tubes L extend downwardly and enter a chamber T containing disinfectd ing chemicals U and a drain pipe V. The slabs B and D form an air passageway C at the front of the crypts. The passageway C extends through openings X in the shelves L, and communicates with the chamber S at the bottom through a port E and the atmosphere at the top through a ventilator O, thereby providing for a circulation of air in the passageway C. The passageway C is also instrumental in carrying off any vapors that may escape from the crypts past the slab D due to imperfections in the setting of said slabs. The front of the crypts are also provided with ornamental slabs A which are preferably of marble and which lie against the outer slabs B.
