OPERATING-TABLE FOR SWINE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed June 11, 1913.
Patented Jan. 20, 1914.
Serial No. 773,101.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, Gnonon ALLEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kansas, in the county of Edgar, State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Operating-Tables for Swine; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the'same.
This invention relates to operating tables for swine.
The object of the invention resides in the provision of an operating table of the character named which includes improved means for holding the swine upon the table in proper position for effecting the particular operation.
With the above and other objects in View the invention consists in the details of construction and in the arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing the invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts in the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a plan view of the invention and showing a swine held thereon; Fig. 2, a side elevation of the invention; Fig. 3, an end view of same; Fig. 4, a section on the line gm- L of Fig. 1; Fig. 5, a section on the line 55 of Fig. 3, and Fig. 6, a detail perspective view of the leg holding device which is adapted to be detachably associated with the table.
Referring to the drawings the invention is shown as comprising a table A which includes a top 10 supported by legs 11. Mounted upon the top 10 at each side thereof and adjacent one end of the table are brackets 12 and 13. The bracket 12 has its upper end forked to produce spaced arms 1 1 and 15 and the bracket 13 likewise has its upper end forked to produce spaced arms 16 and 17. The arms 16 and 17 of the bracket 13 are provided respectively with alined openings 18 through which is adapted to be detachably engaged a bolt 19. Pivoted upon the bolt 19 is one end of a lever 20 which may be adjusted relatively to the arms 16 and 17 by interchangeably engaging the bolt 19 in the openings 18. The outer edges of the arms 16 and 17 are connected by a U-shaped member 21 which acts as a stop to limit movement of the lever 20 in one direction. Secured against the outer edge of the arm 11 of the bracket 12 is a plate 22 the inner edge of which is provided with teeth 23 which project beyond the inner face of the arm 14. Mounted on the inner face of the arm 15 of the bracket 12 is a bow spring 24 which is adapted to engage the adjacent side of the lever 20 and force said lever toward the inner side of the arm 14. This lever 20 carries a plate pawl 25 adapted to cooperate with the teeth 23 of the plate 22 to lock the free end of the lever against upward movement. Mounted upon the top 10 between the brackets 12 and 13 is a sill 26 the central portion of the upper edge of which is dished as at 27. The lower edge of the lever 20 directly above the dished portion 27 of the sill is also dished as at 28. hlounted upon the side edge of the top inwardly of and adjacent the bracket 12 is a back supporting plate 29. Formed in the upper side of the top 10 is a plurality of squared recesses 30 in which is adapted to interchangeably engage the squared shank 31 of a leg holding device B. This leg holding device B further includes a laterally extending portion 32 and the free end of this laterally extending portion terminates in an upwardly directed U-shaped portion 34.
In the use of the device the swine is laid upon the table with its back in engagement with the plate 29 and its neck resting upon the sill 26 in the dished portion 27. The free end of the lever 20 is then moved downwardly so that the neck of the swine will engage in the dished portion 28 of the lever and in this manner the swine will be prevented from removing its head from between the sill 26 and lever 20. The rear legs of the swine are then pushed forward and the leg holding device inserted in one of the openings 30 so that the forwardly disposed legs will rest in the U-shaped portion 34L of the leg holding device and the swine will then be held in position to perform the desired operation.
What I claim is 1. A swine operating table comprising a top, legs supporting said top, brackets mounted on opposite sides of the top respectively and having their upper end forked to form spaced arms, a lever having one end pivoted between the arms of one of said brackets and movable between the arms of the other bracket, a plate secured to the outer edge of one of the arms of the last named bracket and provided with teeth extending inwardly of said arm, a pawl plate mounted on the lever and cooperating with the teeth of the first named plate, means constantly tending to dispose said lever in position to engage said pawl plate with said teeth, a sill mounted on the top between said brackets, a back rest secured to one side of the top and adjustable leg holding means supported by the top.
2. A swine operating table comprising a top having a plurality of squared openings in its upper side, a back rest secured to one side of the top, means for holding the head of the swine upon the top, and a leg holding device adapted for interchangeable engagement in the openings in the top, said 7 leg holding device comprising a rod having one end squared and adapted for interchangeable engagement in the openings of the top and its other end offset and curved to form a socket for the reception of the leg of a swine.
3. A swine operating table comprising a top having a plurality of squared openings in its upper side, legs supporting the top, a back rest secured to one side edge of the top means for holding the head of the swine upon the top, and a leg holding device adapted for interchangeable engagement in the openings in the top.
In testimony whereof, I affix my signature, in the presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE ALLEN.
