Description

G. L. BRAUOHER 6: E. R1 JOHNSON.
, TIMEKEEPER FOR TELEPHONES.
APPLICATION FILED APR.17, 1913.

"Muse/k0 1118 I UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CLARK L. BRAUGHER AND EDWARD R. JOHNSON, OF QINCINNATI, 01110.
TIMEKEEPER FOR TELEPHONES.
"To all wlzomw't may concern:
Be it known that we, CLARK L. BRAUCHER and Enwann R. JOHNSON, citizens of the United States, and residents of the city of Cincinnati, in t-hecounty of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Timekeepers. for Telephones, of which the following is a full, clear, and exactdescription, reference being had to the accompanying drawings,
forming a part of this specification.
It is the object of our invention to provide these features, and we accomplish it by that certain construction and arrangement to be hereinafter specifically pointed out and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device arranged to stand on a fiat surface. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the supporting means. Fig. 8 is a per spective View of the device arranged to fasten ona desk telephone. Fig. 1 is a bottom perspective view of the plate. Fig. 5 represents the end plate.
The plate 1, on which are mounted the working portions of our device. is formed pieferably with a depending flange 2 to 55 form a neat. edgmand has the circular aperture 3 at one end for the face of a stop watch 4. lVithin the aperture is a depending flange 5, which carries pins 6. On these pins 6. by means of slots in its sides, is placed the circular casing 7, which receives the watch. This watch 4 is preferably provided with a check 8 and a stop and return 9 with stems therefor and crown pieces. Apertures 10 are provided forthese stems in the casing 7. A clip 11 is mounted on the end'of the plate opposite the watch face, preferably by the screws 12, and under this clip is placed the end of a record pad 13. This pad is to be, ruled and marked. if desired, for the convenient recording of telephone calls. 7
As to the use of the time-keeper,-when a long distance call is made, as soon as connection is given, the stop watch is started;
for all breaks in connection time is taken Specification of Letters Patent.

out by means of the check, and when the connection is over, the total time marked upon'the pad at once. We have pl'QYlOllFly applied for-a patent upon a telephone timekeeper which embodies these features f usefulness. Constructive different-es appear in the respective plates 1 of this and t of that specification, but the main features of difference lie in the use of a different means of attachment and support for the plate as will be now pointed out.
On the base of the plate 1 is riveted a plate 14 which carries a post i 15 inclined awa from the perpendicular. On this post is supported a combination standard, support and clamp. constructed of two stampings of metal 16, 1 as follows: The one edge of the two stampings is straight to stand upon a fiat surface, and the other is inclined to hold the plate 1 at a convenient angle when it is stood upon such surface. At the narrow end of the stampings are screwthreaded holes to receive a clamping screw 17. The plates are then bent. in opposed relation. in a half circle to form two clamping members 18. 18, for the pedestal 19 of a desk telephone instrument. Thev are then bent straight. and then bent out to form two sides of a socket 520 to receive the post 15; bent straight again. and then out. at rightangles to form a back support. istering screw holes are made to receive the thumb screws 21. 21. on either side of the socket 20, and holes are provided on the back support whereby it mar be screwed to the wall. I
Over the back support. is the end plate'23. with the side edges bent over at 24, 24-, to slidabl; engage the sides of the back sup port. This plate serves to, hold the two endsof the stampinsrs together, and to make a neat back for the supporting means.
To use the supp t a clamp for a telephone, the end plate 23 is removed and the members swung; on the post to a right angled position. The top edge 25 of the back portion of the members is cut away at an angle equal to the angle between the post- 15 and perpendicular to the plate 1. This permits it to fit against the inclined surface of the plate 1, and the position of the post is such that it will slide inside the. flange 2 of the plate. Toset the clamp over the telephone pedestal, the screws 21, 21, are removed and the stamping swung on the screw 17 This (lone sliding the back inside the flange. A felt lining is preferably used in OfiHH-QCiZlOIE with the clamp portions 18, 18.
The eim lieity of construction can now be seen; Iii; 1;- HI: without further statement, how ilie sirporting device can "be made '0 ee'rve 2 support or tanil, m, by e, as a, clamp for a desk le or, by reziioving the end 't lio serewe into the Wall.
