UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM F. OROURKE, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO THE PAYSON MANUFAC- TURING COMPANY, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, A CORPORATION OF ILLINOIS.
BRACKET.
To all whom it may concern Beitknown that Ll/VILLIAM F. OROURKE, citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Brackets, of which the following is a full, clear, concise, and exact description.
My invention relates to brackets, and more particularly to a bracket providing a pulley frame for a guide-pulley adapted to support and guide a cable or traversing rod.
As is well known, in connection with mechanism for operating a series of swinging window sashes, there is ordinarily employed a reciprocating cable or rod 0peratively connected to the sashes. This cable or traversing rod is guided by and supported upon a series of guide pulleys, each pulley being journaled in a pulley-frame forming part of a cast iron bracket. Such brackets are readily cracked or broken and are heavy and cumbersome.
The object of my invention is to provide a simple and comparatively light and inexpensive bracket which is strong and durable.
My invention may be more readily understood by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a front elevation of a series of swinging windows showing the bracket of my invention employed in connection with mechanism for operating the windows; Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail perspective view of the bracket; and Fig. 3 is a fragmentary vertical section of the outer end of the bracket.
The same reference characters refer to the same parts throughout the several views.
In Fig. 1, two of the brackets A are shown secured to the window jambs. Each bracket consists of a metal strap, such as a strap of steel, bent into a U-shape, thus Specification of Letters Patent.

providing an upper leg 1, a lower leg 2, and a cross-bar 3. The ends of the strap are also bent, preferably outwardly at right angles from the legs, to form feet 1. The feet 4 are provided with openings 5 for the reception of screws by which the bracket is held in place.
The U-bend or forward end of the bracket constitutes a pulley frame or housing in which is journaled a guide-pulley 6. The axle of said pulley is preferably the lower member of an L-shaped rod 7, said rod being secured, at its ends, by riveting or in other suitable manner, to the leg 1 and the cross-bar 3 of the bracket.
In Figs. 1 and 3 of the drawings a traversing rod 8 is shown as supported upon and guided by the guide-pulley 6.
The bracket of my invention, being made of strap steel or the like, is readily and cheaply manufactured, is very strong and is not subject to that liability of cracking which constitutes an objectionable feature of the well-known cast-iron bracket.
I claim:
The combination with a bracket comprising a metal strap bent into a U-shape and having the outer ends of the two legs thereof bent at an angle to form attaching feet, of an L-shaped rod located within the U- bend of said bracket, the upper end of said rod being secured to the upper leg of said bracket and the lower end of said rod being secured to the cross-bar of said bracket, and the lower branch of said L-shaped rod constituting an axle, and a guide-pulley mounted upon said axle.
In witness whereof, I hereunto subscribe my name this 2nd day of June, A. 1)., 1911.
WILLIAM F. OROUlRKE.
