The invention relates to extension tables in the e of household furniture and .more particularly lo lthattype supported at the renter by a pedestal leg;7 and the objects ot' the invention are to provide meehanism by which the halves ofthe table-top are so connected as to move oppoeitely to equal distunee in the opening` and Closing' movements, thus maintaining balance,- and permitting the table to beI opened or closed by one person alone at one end, the other end moving' automatically, and to pro-vide means vt'or insuring the easy movement` of the slides and lessening' or entirely avoiding lthe liability ot the moving parte to bind.

The adjacent faces of the several slides J, C, K, are grooved nea-r the upper and lovver edges to produce channels as at j c /c and form the longitudinally extending central ribs J1 C1 C2 K1 between the channels. On each rib is a strip or fiat bar of metal B avider than the rib and extending. partially over'the adjacent channels, and having its edges rounded. These strips B B lie face to face in pairs and at one end each is `forked as at Bl and the branches foldedto form housii'igs B2 receiving pins B3 serving as shafts for small rollers B4 mounted in the housings and grooved on the periphery to match closely to and engage the rounded edges of the adjacent strip.

The fork B1 of each strip is at the opposite end from its neighbor, and the overhanging portions of the housingsl and their rollers are received in the channels. 'The strips of' each pair are thus joined together with liberty to move longitudinally relatively to each other with their attached slides, the rollers serving as the means of en gagemcnt and in reducing the friction.

To limit the outward movement of the strips and slides and the separation of the two halves of' the table-top, a projection or spur B5 is produced on the upper edge of each strip at the proper location, arranged to strike or be struck by the upper roller B4 of the adjacent strip and arrest the out- Ward movement.; the inward movement is arrested by the contact of the two halves 01"' the table-top, aswill Le understood.

Thus constructed and arranged, the several parts or' the table are reliably joined while the required movements are permit-ted with but little friction, and slight changes of the materials employ-ed, due to hygrometric conditions, do not interfere with -the working` of the n'lechanism.l I

No claim is made herein to the outer slide structure, as the same forms the subjectmatter ot an application filed February 8, 1913, as a division thereof, ASerial No. 747,026.

I claim 1. An extension table having a bar eX- tending transversely of the table-joint and a horizontally arranged pulley at each endof said bar, cords attached to the halves of the table-top vand extending partially around said pulleys to induce equal and opposite movements of such halves, a track on -the under face of each of said halves, and vertically arranged rollers mounted on said bar in engagement with said tracks.

An extension table having a bar extendingtransversely ot the table-joint and a horizontally arranged pulley at each end of said bar, cords attached to the halves of the table-top and extending partially around .said pulleys to induce 4equal and opposite movements of such halves, a track on the'under face of each of said halves, pins serving as centers for said pulleys, a yoke on the upper end of cally arranged roller supported in said' yoke, said rollers adapted to enga-ge said tracks.

3. An extension table havinga bar extending transversely o the table-joint and a horizontally arranged pulley ateach end of said bar, cords attached to the halves of the table-'top and extending partially around said pulleys to induce equal and opposite movements of such halves, a cylindrical track on the under face of each of said halves, pins serving as centers for said pulleys, a yoke on pins, and a vertically arranged grooved roller supported in said yoke, said rollers adapted to engage said tracks.
