Ile it known that I, W'iLLiAM F. I-liiri-iNnn, a citizen et the llnited States, residing at Benton Harbor. in the county ot' Berrieii and State of Michigan, have Vinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Filing-Cabinets; and I do hereby declare the `following to be a full, clear, and exact description oit the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertaiiis to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings,

This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in rotary tiling cases designed especially nfor use in tiling grocer bills, receipts, etc.

The invention has for its special object the provision of a rotarytiling cabinet so arranged as to permit the tiling ot bills or other documents in such vmanner as to permit ot1 their being readily accessible at all times.

The device is simple and inexpensive iii construction and permits the filing of a great number ot bills within a small coin'- pass. l

To these ends and to such others as the invention may pertain, the sameconsists in the novel construction and peculiar arrangement, combination and adaptation of parts, all as will be more fully hereinafter described, shown in the accom )anying draivings and then specifically de ned in the appended claims.

The invention is clearly illustrated in the` accompanying drawings which, with the numerals of reference marked thereon, form a part of this specification and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a tiling cabinet constructed in accordance with my invention, parts of the cover being broken away. Fig. 2 is a central vertical section ot the same with the cover shown as open. Fig. 3 is a vertical section through a portion ot the rotary case or cylinder with parts broken away. Fig. 4 is an enlarged sectional detail showing a series of radial compartments with one of the bill holders held in place in one of the compartments. Fig.v

Reference now being had to the details ot the drawings by numeral, 1 represents the cuter casing or housing, rectangular in outline and ot' a size adapted to conform to the sir/.e of the cabinet cylinder journaled therein.

2 is aA shelf provided at one side of the cabinet The. upper portion 3 of the casing 1 is lsemi-circular to cont'orm to the curvature with a rotary top section 4, and is adapted to be turned back to expose the cabinet inclosed within the casing, the said section 4 being pivoted at its lower rear end upon a. shaft 5 which extends longitudinally through the casing and upon this shaft 5 is journaled the rotary cabinet 6 which consists olE a central tube 7 provided at its outer ends with supporting spiders 8, through central openings in which spiders is passed the shaft 5, the ends of the shaft being provided with suitable bearings 9, 9 in the section 4.

To the periphery of the tube 7 and spaced apart a distance conforming to the width ot the rotary bill holding sections, designed to be used in the cabinet, are the lower ends of the partitions 10, l0, which partitions are preferably made of sheet metal and extend from the central tube 7 to the periphery of the cabinet, the saine `being held in their relative positions by soldering or otherwise secured to the end walls of the cabinet, which walls are. preferably also constructed ol sheet metal.

In Fig. G of the drawings, I have shown a modification in which the end walls are shown as constructed of wood and in which the. partitions are seated at their ends within grooves termed inthe walls for their reception.

One end of the shaft 5 is provided with a suitable operating hand wheel lliand adjacent to this Wheel is sleeved one end of a lever 12, said lever carrying' at its free end a weight 13.- A set screw 14, the lower end of which has a bearing upon the said shaft 5, serves as a means for locking the lever so as to maintain the weight at any desired angle with reference to the shaft.

15 is a bill holder bent transversely at substantially its longitudinal center to form a lshown at 16 and the upper edge of which portion 16 is flared slightly outward to form a flange 17. The opposite portion 19 of t-he holder has one of its edges cut away as indicated at 20 to form a space along one side of the holder within which space may be displayed index or other characters upon the bill or card containedtherein to indicate the contents of the holder. The portion 19 of the holder 'is bent to form atransverse projection 21 and at a point in close proximity to its outer eiid is bent transversely to form a transverse rib 22, the free end of said section 19 being inclined outwardly to form the member 23 which serves as'a handle, the depression of which will serve to release the transverse rib :22 from its engagement with a keeper 2d. provided at the outer entrance of the chamber within which the holder is placed, the engagement of the said rib with the keeper serving to normally retain the holder in position within the cabinet.

From the foregoing description, the operation of the invention will be readily understood.

The bills or other papers which it is designed to file within the cabinet are placed within the several removable holders 15, being so placed therein that the numerals or other characters designed to designate the.

contents of the holder may be displayed along the edge provided by the cut away portion 20. The said holders are placed within the several peripheral chambers or pockets formed by the radial shells or par-A titions 11 and are held therein by the spring action of the said section 19, which serves to hold the transverse rib 21 in locking engagement with the compress disposed at the entrance to the pockets. In order to compensate for the eXtra weight thatmight be imposed uponyone side of the cabinet in case a portion only of the bill holding sections are lled, the weight 13 may be readily adjusted to such an angle as will counterbalance the cabinet and serve to hold the same against rotation beyond the point at which access to the bill holders may be had, yso that, when it may be at any time desired to remove any particular bill holder and its contents, the cabinet may be rotated by the hand wheel 11 to a point at which vthe compartment containing the holder to be removed is brought i to the level of the shelf 2' and the weight will sei-ve to prevent the further rot-ation of the cabinet during the time that the contents of the compartment is removed.l It will be seen that, as weight may be added at any time to either side of the cabinet, a' balance will,

be readily maintained by a simple adjust nient of the counterbalancing weight..

When it is desired to secure access to the interior of the cabinet, it is simply necessary to throw back thepivoted cover which will expose one-fourth of the "periphery of the compartments. rlhe shelf 2 will serve as a convenient table or support for bills or papers removed from the bill holders for the purpose of examination. l
