in use, the parts being adjusted as shown in Fig. 2, and the bearing in the bushing 16 becoming loose by wear, the operator loosens clamp's'crews 10 and 11 suiiiciently to permit sleeve B to be turned therein. He then seizes said sleeve around the lrnurle'd portions b and turning it on the thimble B forces it outwardly over the split bushing 16 compressing said bushing tightly upon the outer end of spindle C. He then gives said sleeve a backward turn, suicient to relieve the bushing from a clamping hold upon the spindle but still holding it in close turning relation thereto. This may loosen the end bearing between lthe end of sleeve 16 and inner face of base C, but a slight forward turn will adjust the parts again so that the end thrust of the spindle between base C and washer ct will permit no lost r motion or reciprocal vibration. The clamping screws and 11 are then tightened and By this construction and in the manner described, from time to time, the bearing is tightened, or closed up, to keep the parts in close relation and prevent vibration, thus prolonging the life of the bearing and securing accurate and true grinding at`all times. The bearing being close to the grinding wheel said wheel is given a firm support and being a snug running bearing at all times the wheel is held from vibration and perfect results are secured. When it is desired to loosen the bearing, it can be readily done by reversing the operation above described, that is, loosen the clamp screws 10 and 11 and back the sleeve B oit bushing 16, tube 20 holding said bushing outward as said sleeve turns back thus' nordsee internal dle mounted within said sleeve and journaled at its outer end in said bushing, and at its inner end4 extending through said thimble, and the grinding wheel mounted on the outer end of said spindle, substantially as set fort-h.

The combination in an internal grinding iXture for grinding machines, of a bearing supporting sleeve with a thirnble screwthi'eaded into its inner end, meansfor locking said thimble, means for clamping said sleeve, a bushing mounted in the outer end of said sleeve by a tapered engagement, a grinding wheel spindle mounted within said sleeve with its outer end journaled inv said bushing, a grinding wheel mounted on the outer end oi said spindle with its base bearing against the outer end of said bushing, and a distance tube between the inner end of said bushing and the adjacent end of said thimble, substantially as set forth.
