Razon, AND GUARD THE-Enron.
Specification of Letters Patent.
' Application led April 1, 1912. Serial No. 687,581.
2 'ov aU 'whom it may concern Be it known that I, ALBERT OuERHniir, a citizen of the United States, and a' resident of Ogden, in the county of Weber and State of Utah, have invented a new and Improved Razor and Guard Therefor, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact descrip? tion.
This invention relates to improvements in razors of the safety type and guards therefor, and has for an object to provide an improved structure which may be easily assembled and disassembled, and will when present a simple eiective construction.
Another object of the invention is to provide a razor blade formed with a guiding projecting bead and a guard co-acting therewith formed with engaging members' designed to lit over the end of the razor blade and in theopposite sides of said bead for` holding the guard properly in place. y
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a razor structure formed with a blade having a longitudinal bead and a movable sleeve. This structure co-acts with a removable guard structure formed with the usual guarding ingers and with a projecting tongue for engaging` said sleeve anda pair of spacediingers for engaging the blade on each side of the bead, whereby the guard is held rigidly in place.
In carrying out the objects of the invention, a blade is provided having preferably cutting edges on each side, the blade `being also preferably hinged to any suitable .supporting handle designed to protect the blade when the same is not in use. The blade is constructed. with a central longitudinal bead on one side and fiat' on the opposite side so is to accommodate a iiat guard. The guard :.s formed with a tongue extending from one end ,for engaging the slidable sleeve arranged on the reduced part of the razor blade and with a pair of spaced iingers at.
the opposite end adapted to engage the blade on each side of the bead, whereby the guard is held rigidly in place and either side ofV the blade may be used, the guard being formed with the usual guarding fingers on each side.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specication, in which j similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1is a perspective view of an embodiment of the invention; Fig. 2is a. top plan view of an embodiment of the -invention, the handle being broken away; Fig. 3 is an end view of the structure shown in Fig. 2; Fig. 4 is a section through Fig. 2 on the line 4 4; Fig. 5 is an end view of the guard removed; Fig. 6 is a side view of they structure shown in Fig. 1, the same being shown in a closed position and on a. slightly enlarged scale; Fig. 7 is a top plan view of the razor blade with part of one end thereof removed, a strop guard 'being shown in cony nection therewith; and Fig. ,S is a section through Fig. 7 on the line 8-8.
Referring to the accompanying drawings Patented N 0V. 4, 1913.y
The side of the blade'2 opposite the bead 8 .a
is made preferably flat so as to accommodate the guard 3 vwhich is formed flat. The
guard 3 is formed with the usual guard tin-'- gers 9 and l0, and with a centrally arranged extending tongue 11 at one end anda pair of spaced tongues 12 and 13 at the opposite end.- The tongue 11 is adapted to extend parallel with the shank 5 so that the sleeve 14 slidingly mounted on the shank 5 may be slipped over the tongue 11., binding the sanie tightly to the shank 5. .The spaced tongues 12 and 13 are arranged to be positioned on each side of the bead S when. the guard 3 is in use. By the arrangement of tongues 12 and 13 engaging the bead and the tongue 11 engaging the sleeve 11, the guard is held rigidly in place and either of the edges 6 or 7 may be used.
lthen it is desired to strop the blade 2, theguard 3 is removed and the stropping guard 15 is slipped over one 'edge of' the blade 2 so that in moving the razor back and forth over the strop the under edge will eni Patent In'ea; razor of the class deseribed, thev com.-
` ybintion with a bla-de provided with@l han- .sropped edge and the opposite edge Having thus described inyinvention I clim as new .and desire to secure 'by Letters dle and havinga longitudinally 4positioned bead, of a giiard4 'formed with a,- pairv of space bent-over lingers adapted tot over the' end of said "blade sindA each side of said :15 'beati-and means-for connecting said guard tosaid blade on ingersr ,i
Intestimony whereof I have signed my name to this lspecification in the end opposite to 'said4 two subscribing'witnesses. y
