TELEPHONE-RECEIVER STAND.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 7,1913.
Application filed ApriI 1'7, 1913. Serial N 0. 761,730.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1,.Monnrs SCHWARTZ- BERG, a subject of the Czar of Russia, and a resident of the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Telephone-Receiver Stands, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in telephone receiver stands and has for its object the provision of an improved device of this character which will be simple of construction and efiicient in operation.
The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, and in which Figure 1 is a vertical section of a stand embodying my invention, Fig. 2, a section taken on line zrm of Fig. 1, the remainder of the stand being shown in elevation, and Fig. 3, an enlarged section taken on line y-y of Fig. l.
The preferred form of construction as illustrated in the drawing comprises a tubular stand 1 provided with a slot 2 in one side thereof. A supporting bar 3 is provided with a stem 4 slidably fitting within stand 1, said stem being equipped with a binding screw 5 arranged to secure said stem in adjusted positions in said stand. A pair of clamping jaws 6 which are adapted to receive and hold the ordinary telephone receiver are hinged at 7 to the upper end of supporting bar 3 and leaf springs 8 are secured to said bar under ,finger pieces 6" which extend outwardly and downwardly from said clamping jaws as shown in Fig. 1. The upper ends 9 of these leaf springs are arranged in contact with said finger pieces and the lower ends thereof are arranged to contact with said finger pieces after a partial operation thereof in opening said jaws. Coiled tension spring 11 are arranged at each side of said jaws and are adapted to yieldingly draw said jaws together.
By the construction above set forth it will be observed that finger pieces 6 may be readily manipulated to open said jaws to receive an ordinary telephone receiver 12. The specific arrangement of hinges will be .2 i round to be durable and hlghly efliclent in use.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims. 4-
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
l. A device of the class described comprising a support; a pair of clamping jaws hinged to said support; a downwardly and outwardly extending finger piece on each of said jaws; a leaf spring secured to said support under each of said finger pieces; and a coiled tension spring secured to each of said jaws at each side thereof and arranged to draw said jaws together, substantially as described.
2. A device of the class described comprising an adjustable support; a pair of clamping jaws hinged to said support; a downwardly and outwardly extending finger piece on each of said jaws; a double leaf spring secured to said support under each of said finger pieces, the upper ends of said leaf springs being arranged in contact with said finger pieces and the lower ends being arranged to cont-act with said finger pieces after partial operation thereof; and a coiled tension spring secured to each of said jaws at each side thereof and arranged to draw said jaws together, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
MORRIS SCHVVARTZBERG.
