Description

l work of my cider-mill. v y
ttuitd taire 4 zum Gattin.
Letters Patent No. 107 ,424, dated S'qetember 13,1870.
` iMPRovEMENT' IN omen-MILLS.
The Schedule referred'to in these Letters Patent and making part ofthe same.
To all whom it may concern, v
Be' it known that I, LEWIS R. TAYLOR, ot' Clark township, in the county of Perry and State of Indiana, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Cider-Mill; `and I do hereby declare that thefollowing is a full, clear, and exact description'of the coustuetion and operation of ,the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing making a part of this specification, and'to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawing is a representation of accu tral vertical section of my invention.
Figure 2 is a top view ofthe same.
My invention relates to ciderfmills, and consists in the construction and novel arrangement ofthe devices composing the same, whereby the rotation of the grindiug-rollers raises the elevatingscrew of the press, the same heilig depressed to squeeze the pomace by the reverse movement of the'grinding-rollers.
The letter A of the drawing represents the frame- B designates lthe folnulation-plattbrm thereof, having a circular channel, e, cut in its upper surface, and leading to the discharge. In order to eifectually pre! vent waste, another channel `is formed about the platform, just within its edge.v
G represents the cheese-box, placed ou the platform B. It is formed of perpendicular staves or bars, strongly bound together. It is usually made without a bottom,}and spaces are left between the adjacent edges of the bals.
, D represents the press-head or follower, having a dovetail-reeess in its upper part, into which the dovetail end of the levating-serew is made te iit, in such a manner that the follower maybe slipped on and off, as required.
E is the elevating-screw, which elevates .and depresses the follower. It passes up through the shelf F ofthe frame, and centrally through the grinding. roller H.
G- represents the upper shelf at the top of the frame.
H H' designate the grinding-rollers. They are luted perpendicularly, and have their bearings in the shelves' F and G.,
II is the driving-roller. Itsshaft is extended above.
the shelf G, and-*is provided'with a cross-head, e, ar`
`ranged to receive the s weep K.
' H is the elevating-roller, 'bered` centrally and per# pendieularly, vand, having' its bore provi-ded with a female screw-thread, fit-ted to the elevating-screw, and operating to elevate or-depress the same' as the roller isturned. Y i
K represents the hopper, attached to the side of the frame, and resting on the shelf F. It is tted to the rollers H H', and its bottom sla-nts downward and inward .toward the rollers, in order that the apples may be properly fed thereto. w
lhe operation vof my press maybe thus described:
' The necessary power havingbeen applied tothe sweep or lever which rotates the roller H', the apples' from the hopper pass between the rollers H H', and
are ground, the pomace falling through the notch fu. in the shelf' F into the cheese-box, which is placed' underneath to receive it, being movable on the 'platform. The rotation of the rollers during the grindingoperation causes the elevating-screw to rise.
After the apples are ground, the cheese-box vis moved ou the platfbrln to a point immediately under the roller H, the-follower is slipped on the elevated screw E, and the movement of the sweepsreversed.- lhe screw is thereby caused to descend, pressing the juice thoroughly out of the pomace.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
- 1. In combination with the elevating-screw E, having removable follower', the cheese-box C, and the griluling-'rollers H' and H, the latter being provided with a female sere\\-'.-thread, and the parts all constructed and arranged to operate as specified.
2. In combination with the screw E of a ciderpress, the fluted rollers H, perforated centrally, and provided with female screw-thread, as specified.
In testimony that I claim the above, I have heref nnte subscribed my name in the'presence of two witnes'ses LEWIS It. TAYLOR.
Witnesses:
J. B. BRADLEY, E.' INI. EVANS.
