llTED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
RUSSELL FAULKNER, OF EDNA, KANSAS.
CUFF-BUTTON.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, RUSSELL FAULKNER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Edna, in the county of Labette and State of Kansas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Cuff -Buttons, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to cuff buttons and has for an object to provide a device for removably connecting the ends of a cuff and adapted to present a neat and effective appearance.
For the purpose mentioned, use is made of an integral piece of flexible material bent in a U-shaped form and provided with knobs at the outer end thereof, said U- shaped piece of material being adapted to engage the ends of a cuff through holes therein with one of the mentioned knobs engaging the outer surfaces of the cuff at each of the ends thereof.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings constituting a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference denote corresponding parts in all the views, and in which Figure l is a side elevation showing my device attached thereto, to connect the ends of the cuff. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of my cuff button.
Referring more particularly to the views I provide an integral piece of material 10 bent in a U-shaped form to constitute shanks 11 having knobs 12 integrally formed on the outer ends thereof. The piece of material 10, at the base of the U- shaped form is provided with an enlarged portion 13 constituting an apex for the shanks 11, a binding neck against the edges of the buttonholes of a cuff, and a sloping wedge to impel the ends of a cuff outward and in frictional engagement with the shanks 11, so that said button-device 10 is locked from play and from displacement.
In the application of my device to a cuff one of the shanks 11 is passed through the Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed April 8, 1911.

opening in one end of the cufi, the said cuff being previously bent in the usual shape and the mentioned shank after being passed through the first opening in the cuff as mentioned is passed through the second opening in the other end of the cuff, thus relatively connecting the ends of the cuff with one of the shanks 11 disposed to ex tend outwardly from each of the openings in the cuff and adapted to lie against the outer surface of the cuff as shown in Fig. 1.
It will be understood that my device can be constructed of any preferable material and the knobs 12 can be fashioned in artistic designs and shapes.
Having thus fully described the invention, what I claim as new, is
1. A cuff-button comprising an integral and flexible body bent substantially U- shaped and having an enlarged neck portion with sloping edges forming a doubleended wedge, two parallel and constricted shank portions, each extended from one of the ends of said neck-portion, and spherical knobs upon the ends of said shank portions, said knobs adapted to bind said cuff-button from displacement from a cuff and from lateral play, and said wedge-like neck portion adapted to lock against the edges of a button-hole or to impel the sides of a cufi outward and into frictional contact with the said shanks; as and for the purpose specified.
2. In a device of the character described, a substantially U-shaped cuff but-ton having a substantially double wedge-shaped neck portion so constructed as to either bind against the edges of a but-ton hole or to impel the ends of a cuff outward upon slippage or release from the aforesaid binding.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
RUSSELL FAULKNER.
