FOLDING SWING.
Application filed November 9, 1912.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE DILLICH, a citizen of the United States of America, residing in the borough of Butler, in the county of Butler and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Folding Swing, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of my folding swing; Fig. 2 is a front elevation; Fig. 3 is a plan view; Fig. 1 is an enlarged front elevation of a portion of the swing; and Fig. 5 is a front elevation partially broken away and showing the swing in its folded position.
Like symbols of reference indicate like parts wherever they occur.
My invention relates to folding swings and it consists in the arrangement and construction of parts whereby the back and side arms of the swing may be folded down upon the seat and devices for securing the parts in position when the swing is unfolded.
In the drawing, 2 represents the base or seat of the swing. This seat may be formed of front and rear longitudinal bars 3, 4, cross bars 5 and 6 extending between and rigidly secured to the longitudinal bars 3 and 1, and a middle bar 7 extending in a like manner midway between the two end bars. The upper surface of the middle bar 7 and a portion of the upper surface of the end bars 5 and 6 may be curved as shown by dotted lines in Fig. 1. Extending between and attached to the upper surface of the end bars 5 and 6 and the middle bar 7 are longitudinal slats 8. The two end bars 5 and 6 extend above the slats 8 and to this portion of the end bars is secured by hinges 9 the end arms 10 and 11. Hinged to the arms 10 and 11 are the arm rests 12 and 13. The back 14; of the swing is secured to the rear longitudinal bar 4 by hinges 15. In the end bars of this back are mortises 16 through which pass the tenons 17, which tenons in the rear of the back are provided with mortises for the reception of wedges Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 730,490.
19. At each corner of the swing are eyes 20 by means of which the swing may be suspended.
In order to fold the swing for transportation or storage, the wedges 19 are removed. The back is moved backwardly on its hinges until it is free from the tenons 17. The arm rests are thrown back on their hinges and the back 1% is folded down on the seat of the swing and the ends 5 and 6 are then folded down on top of the back and the arm rests are folded forward on their hinges.
The advantages of my invention are that a swing is provided having a comfortable back and arm rests which may be folded compactly together for storage or transportation, the hinges of the arm rests enabling them to be swung out of the way for the folding down of the back.
By the term swing I do not limit myself as my improvement may be applied to hammocks or couches.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a swing the combination of a seat portion, a back hinged to the seat portion, laterallyfolding end pieces hinged to the seat portion, arm rests hinged to the end pieces and devices for rigidly securing the arm rests to the back. said arm rests being arranged to swing substantially into alinement with the end pieces when in folded position.
2. In a swing, the combination of a seat, a folding back hinged to said seat, laterally folding end pieces, laterally folding arm rests hinged to the folding end pieces, so that they may be swung substantially into the plane of the end pieces when in folded position, said arm rest and said back being provided with interlocking portions and devices for securing said interlocking portions together.
