CAMP-STOVE.
menses.
Application filed July 16, 1912.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, Citations 0. FREEMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at WValthill, in the county of Thurston and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Camp- Stoves, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improvement in camp stoves, and has for its object to provide a portable stove of few and simple parts so that it may be economically manufactured, and will be convenient and durable in use.
The invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as described herein and claimed, and as illustrated in the drawing, wherein,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a camp stove en'ibodying my invention, the door being open and the lids l'QlllOVGtl. Fig. 2 is a view of the stove in longitudinal section. F ig. 3 is a transverse sectional view on line 3 3 of Fig.1, a stove lid being added. Fig. 4 is a plan view of a stove lid.
Referring now to the drawing for a more particular description, numeral 5 indicates a stove having a body portion formed, inerosssection, substantially of inverted U-shape. It is perferably constructed of a single, rectangular, metallic sheet bent transversely to form upright sides 6, the middle part of the sheet forming the top 7, and bent longitudinally near one of its terminals to form the upright, rear end wall 8. lValls (3 and S are preferably of uniform height or width, and their edges are reinforced by rolls 9 adapted to inclose the metallic loop 10, of rectangular form, the front end of the loop providing pivotal mountings for the hinge members 11 of the stove door 12.
The smoke-pipe for the stove is indicated at 1.3, and at 14- and 21 are indicated apertures formed at longitudinal intervals and preferably in alincment in the upper flat wall 7 of the stove.
The lids for making closures of apertures 14 are indicated at 15, and aperture 21 provides an exit way conmiunicating with pipe 13.
In order that the stove may sustain the weight of cooking utensils to be placed thereon and incident to its use, and to prevent warping or buckling of the walls from the effects of heat, a plurality of anchor members, braces or reinforcing-bars 16 are Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July S, 1913 Serial No. 709,710.
employed. They are substantially of inverted U-shape, and preferably they are disposed near apertures 1 f, upon the inner side of and transversely of walls (5 and 7, and they are suitably riveted to said walls. The arms of members 16 have a length greater than the width of walls 6, and when mounted as described, they project outwardly of or below rolls 9.
The herein described stove may be economically manufactured since its parts are few and simple, and having a comparatively light weight it may be conveniently trans ported. it may have any suitable length, and the number of apertures 1 f may, of course, be greater or less than shown in the drawings.
In operation, the stove may be placed upon the ground, the arms of members it; being embedded therein. After apertures 14: have been closed or covered in the usual manner, there will be a good draft through the stove since the rolls 9 bear upon the ground. To provide the required draft for the stove, however, rolls 9 should have the bearings mentioned, and for this purpose, members 10, if desired, may be driven into the ground in a manner to carry the upright walls downward until the rolls, by reason of their contact with the ground, will close all of the openings intervening between the ground and rolls which are occasioned by an uneven or rough ground-surfacc upon which the stove is placed.
It will be seen that wood or other fuel when placed in the. stove, rests upon the grouml, and when there is an accumulation of ashes, it will not be necessary to remove the same, since the stove itself may be readily moved to an adjacent, clear groundspace, and this is one of the advantages in the use of the stove.
At '17 is indicated a semmdary reinforcing roll. it is of inverted U-shape, and is formed at the front terminals of walls 6 and 7, and is adapted to inclose a reinforcing wire 1.8.
In instances where brush, straw or other light fuel is employed, the door 12 may be open, if desired, and may rest upon the grouml as shown in the drawing. With other kinds of fuel in use, however, the door is generally closed, and the hook 19 of the. door may engage that part of the roll .17 above the open end of the stove, for maintaining the door in closed relation to roll 17, draft apertures 20 being provided for When open, may lie fiat upon the ground andv Will not interfere With the operation of cooking or other uses of apertures 14.
Having described the several parts and their uses, a further explanation relating t'ooperati'on is not necessary.
What I claim-as my invention and desire tose'cure by Letters Patent is,
A stove of thechara'cter described com prisinga rectangular, sheet metal body portion of inverted U-shape in cross seotion, an end Wall closing one end'thereof, a door for closing the opposite end thereof, a smoke pipe leading from the top of the bodyporti'o'n at the end thereof remote from said door, there being a plurality of'longitudinally spaced openings formed in the top of "said body portion, and a transversely dispos'edbra'ce of arch form secured rigidly-adjacent each of and between sald openings CHARLES o. FREEMAN.
