Description
J. GERBER.
I Cultivator Teeth. No. 106,478. Patented Aug. 16', 1870.
N. PEVERS. FHOTO-LITHOGRAFNER, wAsHmuToN, D C
NITED STATES PATENT OFFIC JULIUS GERBER, OF ROCKFORD, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN CULTIVATORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 106,478, dated August 16,1870. I
.t'o all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JULIUs GERBER, of Rockford, in the county of Winnebago and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Cultivators; and I do hereby declare that the following is afull and exact description of the same, reference being bad to the accompnnyingdrawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
This invention consists of a device for connecting" the shovel standard to the cultivatorbeam, which is so constructed as to permit the vertical and lateral adjustment of the standards when desired. The details of construction will be fully described hereinafter.
, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of the beam and standards, and Fig. 2 top view of the bolt and standard'iron.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use myinvention, I will now proceed to describe fully its construction and operation.
A represents the cultivator-beam; and B,'the standard, provided with the usual shovel, b.
0 represents an angle-iron the vertical face of which is drawn closely against the beam by means of the bolt 0, which secures it. Its horizontal face is provided with notches or teeth, as shown.
d represents a clevis-shaped iron, provided with a bar, d, and suitable nuts, and having alsoattaehed an ear, W, the lower face of which latter is notched to correspond with the dpper face of the angle-iron o. By means of theiron d the standard B is held, as shown. The
notched faces of the beam-iron and standardiron are secured to each other bya suitable setscrew, e.
Theoperation is as follows: The standard is adjusted vertically by loosening the nuts on the standard-iron and moving it up or down, as may be desired. The lateral adjustment of the standard is secured by loosening the setscrew 6, and by moving the face of the car 61 upon the face of the iron 0 until the desired position is obtained. The parts may then be secured in this position by tightening the setscrew.
The construction herein described possesses all the advantages found in the most a pproved form of fastening devices. The parts are all simple in themselves, and the desired adjustments are quickly and easily made.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and 'desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The device described, consisting of the clevis d, with bar (1 and notched face (1 angle-iron c, with bolt 0 and set-screw 0, when combined and arranged as described, and employed in connection with a cultivator-beam and shovelstandard, as described.
This specification signed and witnessed this 22d day of March, 1870.
JULIUS GERBER.
