Letters Patent No. 105,975, dated August 2, 1870.
IMPROVEMENT IN CUT-OEE Eon RELAYS AND OTHER ELECTRO- MAENETIc INSTRU- MENTS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters 4Patent and making; pau-t of the lame.
'To all whom it may con-cern Be it known that I, FREDERIC M. PERRY, of Barton, in the coul'itywof Orleans and State of Vermont, have invented a new 'and improved Ont-Out for ElectrojMagnetic Instruments; and I do hereby decla-rc that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in. the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing formingr part of thisspccification. l f This invention relates-to iinprovents in cut-oi' apparatus for electro-magnetic instruments, and consists in a platinnl'n point` mounted-on a lever, pivoted adjnstably to the brass plate of the relay or machine,
by means of a` yoke and set-screw, so arranged that the lever may be attached `and the point may bc adjusted relatively to the armature without taking the Y machine ont of circuit. y
Figure l represents a section ofmy vimproved :apparatus, and a pai-tiet elevation of an electro-magnet, the latter being in dotted vlines -and Figure 2 is a perspective view of my improved apparatus.
Similar let-ters of reference indicate corresponding part-s.
A represents the brass plateof therelay or machine, to which the lever isA attached; Y
B is the lever; O is the platinum point, attached to the said lever; and
D is the armature of the machine, workng. in conjunction with this platinum point.
'Ihis lever B is vpivotcd to -thc clamp? E, and connected to the brass plate A by the clamp E and the clamping-screw F,so that it may be readily attached to any machine in usc, without taking it outlet' circuit- Y The leve-r is raised on-its pivot, askshn'wnlin dot-ted lines at G, to break the circuit, andV v.tnrned down, as represented bythe black lines in fig.,2, to close it.
When the lever is down, it rcstsfon the brass bars Hof the relay, between which thc larmature of' the magnet vibrates.
A as a temporary substitute for the said bars H, in the absence of them. The lever B is provided with athuinb-bt, K, to
be nsed for working it.
Having thus described my invention,- 'g I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters l3at- The combination of the level' B, platinum point C,
' clamp E, and clamping-screw F, when arranged for application to the plate A and to the armature D, all substantially as specified. FREDERIC M. PERRY.
