This invent-ion relates more particularly to the filling-feeder or hopper in which a reserve Supply of tilling-carriersis contained, to he' transferred one by one to the l working shuttle as occasion demands in a Northrop loom, and it is an iniproi'ement on `the feeder forming the subject-matter of United States Patent No. 966,615 granted to Stilnpson August. 9, 1910. In said patent the but-ts of the 'filling-carriers are sustained in suitable circxdarly-arranged pockets or Seats in the revoluble plate at the` inner end 'of the lillingfeeder, while the tips of said Carriers are sustained by individually Inovahle tip-holders mounted in the outer plate of the feeder, both plates' being connected t0 revolve in unison in well known manner` The outer plate shown in said patent haa a continuous peripheral flange over which the ilhng-ends are led, (a Taluahle feature of const-rnct1on,) and the tip-holders are mounted to rock in elongated, radial slots in the plate, said slots having parallel sides and being made just wide enough to receive the tip-holders.. which latter are Spring pressed toward the laitt-sustainiug plate ot' the feeder. The springe are held between 'the tip-holders and spring-senta which span the slots about midwa)7 between their ends. This patented feeder haa` been found to be highly suceessful and well adapted ,for the purpose for which it was designed, but owing to the construction of the outer plate it has been found dittieult to :resemble the tipholders.. the spat-es for their recept-ion being contracted, and `sometimes a spring-seat will he broken when iu erting a tip-holder.
My present invention has` for itsl particular objeet the Construction of the outer plate of the filling-feeder in such'lnanner that the assembling of the tip-holders ie n'lateriallv facilitated and breakage of any partof t-he plate wholly obviated.

'latter are adapted to rock at their inner ende, as in the Stiinpeon structure, but l have widened laterally each slot between the spring-seat and the peripheral flange, permitting the ready insert-ion of a tip-holder. Such widening of the outer portions of the slots has'necessitated strengthening of the e plate, and to that end I have interposed relatively thin but deep radial ribs between the outer, widened portions of adjacent slots, and extending from the spring-seats to the peripheral flange, the depth of a rib being nearly equal to th width of the ange. By this construction l maintain the requisite strength and rigidity of the plate, without undue increase in the weight thereof, and l provide a construction whereby the tipholders can be positioned with rapidity and ease, and without danger of breakage of any part of the plate..
The various novel features of my invention will be fully described in the suhjoined speeilieation and particularly pointed out in the following claims.

Referring to Fig. l, the circular plate (L provided with butt -receiving pockets or Seats Zand haring its hub (L3 mounted to rotate on the horizontal stud as fixed in the stand A7; the tilling-end holding means. comprising the (liek 7) and Stud 02, rotatable with the tilting-feeder. and the hub il of the outer feeder plate`v rigidly attached to the hnb al. are and may be all as in the Stinipson patent unless otherwise stated hereinafter. There is nothingnovel, so far as this invention is concerned, in-the structure of the tip-holder, which is of well known construction, each o-ne being notched at its inner end atr It to embrace and rook upon the rib 9 and having at its outer end lateral ears fr., all as in the Stimpson patent. In accordance with my present invention I widen each slot 7 between the spring-seat 10 and the flange 5, as' at Q0. Fig. 2, leaving a larve clearance at. each side of the tip-holder wIien the latter is positioned, the laterally widened portions Q0 of the several slots being-separated bv the radial ribs 21. These ribs are relatively thin, as shown, but they are made very deep between the spring-seats and the peripheral flange 5, practically as deep as the latter is wide. Fig. 3. and hy this construction I provide the :equisite strength, stiffness and rigidity of the feeder plate without increasing its weight. lu'here the bottom of each rib adjoins the lange 5 I provide small late al lugs or stops 22, cxtehded laterally from opposite sides of the rib, to serve as limiting means for the ad- `jacent tip-holder when empty. That is, when the spring s* is free to act it presses the tip-holder 71.* toward the feeder plate o until the ears 7L rest against the outer faces of the contiguous lugs 22.
Referring to Fig. i2 it will he seen that the lateral enlargement of each tip-holder receiving-aperture between the spring-scat and the flange 5 of tin` plate give-z ample room for manipulation and hzuidlingwvhen inserting a holder /r into place, and for inserting thle spring .if in its proper position. wit-hout any crowding or forcing of parts into place. -When the .space is contracted. it has been heretofore. it is ditlicult to get the tip-holder and its spring into' proper position, and sometimesl the forcing of a partY into place results in breakage of the feeder plate, which in prat-tice is a metal casting and relatively thin throughout.
The tip-holders do not often break, but the springs 'will sometimes break or lose their strength, and new ones must then be provided, 'and by the construction herein set forth this change is made very easy while at the same time breakage of t-he feeder plate is obviated.
Having fully described my` invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a revoluble filling-feeder for looms, a tip-sustaining plate having a continuousv peripheral tl-ange and provided with a series of closed, radially arranged slots, a series of spring-seats spanning the slots at the outer face of the plate, each slot being increased in width laterally between the springeseat thereof and the closed outer end of the slot, for the ready positioning ot' a tip-holder and its spring, a series of relatively thin and deep radial ribs between the widened portions of the slots and extended from the spring-seats to the flange, tip-f holders seated in the slots and mounted torock on the plate at their inner ends, springs ..1 interposed between the holders and the spring-seats, and means at the outer end of each slot to limit spring-induced movement of the tip-holder therein.
