EDGAR W. BUCKINGHAM, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
I PROTECTING ATTACHMENT FOR FAUCETS.
i To all whom it may concern. v 3
Be it known that I, EDGAR W. BUGKING- HA'M, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Protecting Attachments for Faucets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to devices for protecting china, glasses or like fragile articles from being broken'when brought into contact with a faucet, an object of the invention being to provide an elastic device which can be conveniently placed upon a faucet and geld against accidental displacement there- In the drawing forming a portion of this application, and in which like letters of reference indicate similar parts in the several views :--Figure l is a side view of a faucet showing the application of the invention thereto. Fig. 2 1s a vertical section through the mouth of the faucet and through the dev1ce. y
The faucet 1 herein shown is of the usual well known construction, being provided with a depending mouth 2 towhich my improved protecting device 3 is engaged.
The protecting device comprises a main cushioning member 4 and a retaining member 5, the former having its walls increased downwardly and extended at their lower edges into a'horizontal stop flange 6. The member 4 embraces the discharge end of the mouth whereby the flange 6 engages against the lower edge of the mouth 2 so as to limit the sliding adjustment of the member 4; in one direction. The member 5 is of a form to slidably fit upon the mouth 2 and its walls 7 are of an upwardly increased thickness whereby the inner surface of the member 5 can be brought to bear frictionally against the exterior surface of the member 4. From this construction it is evident that the upper reduced'portion of the member 4 may be brought into efiec'tive engagement with the mouth of the faucet on adjustment of the companion member 5. Both of the members of the device may be constructed of rubber and when applied to the faucet as shown in the drawing they may combine to form a guard to elfectually prevent the breakage of fragile articles should they be accidentally brought into contact with the faucet.
I claim:- v v The combination with a faucet, of an elastic protecting device therefor comprising, a member of yieldable material having a wall embracing the mouth of the faucet, the said wall being of an increased thickness toward the discharge end of the mouth and terminating below the mouth in a stop flange contacting with the lower edge of the mouth, and a second member of yieldable' material adapted for sliding adjustment on the Specification of Letters Patent. mouth, the second member having a wall of a downwardly decreasing thickness adapted to embrace the portion of the wall of minimum thickness of the first member and to press the wall of said first member into clamping contact with the mouth of the fau- I cet, the second member having less depth than the first member so that when the.
former is operatively associated with'the latter,'the latter will be exposed from one end of said second member at the discharge end of the mouth.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature I in presenceof two witnesses.
