CURTAIN-HANGER.

Be it known that I, Jorm UMsTLirTnR, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York, county and State of New York, have invented a certain new and use ful Improvement in Curtain-Hangers, of which the following is a full, cl-ear, and exact specification.

This invention relates more particularly to a class of devices adapted to be used for hanging draperies.

My invention has for its object primarily to provide a form of hanger or device de signed to be employed for suspending draperies or the like from poles supported at the windows, doors, and other places of a building, and wherein is employed a supporting plate or member having one ,or a plurality of pins or gripping members by which the drapery is removably attached to the supporting plate and which is held against displacement by a spring member or catch. The catch may be operated by a locking element or clamp, and the draperies when evenly arranged may then be readily applied upon a suitable pole or rod by a hook provided upon the supporting plate.

Another object of the invention is to also provide upon the supporting member or plate one or a plurality of hanging elements or pins whereby the folds of the curtains or the like may be attractively and conveniently draped thereon; and a further object of the invention is to provide a form of curtain hanger of a simple, inexpensive and eiiicient construction and which is susceptible of being made in various sizes.

Still further objects of the ii'lventiou arc to provide a hanger for curtains in the form of a hook which may be readily applied to a curtain pole of ordinary construction; also to provide a hanger that may be applied or may be readily removed without the aid of mechanical tools or without altering or especially adapting the pole to this particular device; and to provide a hanger which may be if desired produced wholly of sheet material or metal by the use of dies and stamping machinery.

A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawing forming a partof this specification in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views, the said invention being more fully described here- Specification of Letters Patent.

In the drawing, Figure 1 is a perspective view of one form of curtain hanger embodying my invention as applied upon a pole. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the curtain hanger, and Fig. 3 is a rear elevation thereof.

The device or curtain hanger 10 has a supporting member or plate 11 which may be integrally formed with, or made separately and joined to one end of a hook 12 having its opposite end spaced from said supporting plate so that the hook may be readily guided over a pole or rod, as shown at 13, when drapery is applied to the hanger, as will be hereinafter more fully described.

The supporting member or plate 11 may be of any desired shape and size, but is preferably in the form of an elongated strip, and adjacent to the free end thereof is provided one or a plurality of pins or gripping members 1 1 which extend at an. angle with respect to one surface of said supporting plate. The drapery after being folded in a suitable way may then be removably fastened upon the pins or gripping members 14, and for the purpose of holding the drapery against displacement upon said pin, I provide a spring plate or clamping member, as 15.

The spring plate or clamping member 15 is somewhat similar in shape to the supporting plate 11, and to lessen the cost of manufacture of my curtain hanger, I prefer to stamp or die-out a portion of the central part of the material of the hook 12 to form said clamping member. Then the device is made of spring metal the clamping member 15 is curved, as at 16, and is then guided so as to be in substantially spaced parallel arrangement with the supporting plate 11, in order to permit engagement of the free end of said clamping member with the free end of the supporting plate. Adjacent to the free end of the clamping member 15 and in register with the pins 1 1 of the supporting plate 11 are provided openings 17 for said pins to be guided therethrough to hold the drapery against displacement when applied thereon, and serving as a means to hold the clamping member and supporting plate together, a locking element, as 18, is provided.

The locking element 18 consists of a lever or handle 19 having two oppositely dis- 2 necessaposed pins 90 and 21 which are movably guided through eyes 22 and provided in lugs 52-! and 23 formed upon the opposite edges of the supporting plate 11. Upon the lover or handle 19 and in alinement with the pins 20 and :21 is finger or lug :26 which is disposed so as to be adapted to engage the clam iing member 15 f( forcing it toward and upon the supporting plate 11 when the lever swung from the surface of said. clamping number. The clamping member 15 and the supporting plate 11 will then be held in locked engagement, and to unlock the parts for removing the drapery from the pins flat the lover or handle 19 is swung in a reverse direction and into contact with the ciam 'iing member 15 and the finger or lug will be freed from engagement with the clamping member.

Serving to permit the folds of curtains or the like to be attractively draped to the hanger, upon the supporting plate 11 and in 'iroximity to the hook 112 is provided a hanging element or pin :27. The hanging element or pin :27 may be curved upwardly, as indicated, so as to properly support the folds of the CllttpGlY when suspended there on, or permit the dii'apery to be conveniently removed therefrom when it is desired to entirely detach the drapery from the curtain hanger.

in the foregoing description l: have embodied the preferred form of my invent-ion, but I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself thereto, as 1 am aware that modifications may be made therein without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention, therefore I reserve to myself the right to make such changes as fairly fall within the scope thereof.

lla'ving thus described my invention, 1 claim new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

1. A curtain hanger of the character described comprising in combination, a slotted hook member, adapted to be hooked to curtain pole, a supporting member integrally formed with said hook member, and provided with. teeth at its lower end, a clamping member stamped out of the material of said supporting member, extending downwardly and parallel to said supportingmember in front thereof having openings in front of the teeth of said supporting member, means for clan'iping a curtain or drapery between said supporting and clamp ing members, and auxiliary means for positively holding the folds of a curtain or drapeiy against displacement, substantially as described.

3. Jr curtain hanger of the character described comprising in combination, a slotted hook member, adapted to be hooked to a curtain pole a supporting member integrally formed with said hook member, and provided with teeth at its lower end, a slotted clamping member stamped out of the material of said supporting member, extend ing downwardly and parallel to said sup porting member in front thereof, having taenings in front of the teeth of said. supporting member, lugs upon opposite sides of the supporting member having eyes, a lever provided with pins rotatably mounted in the eyes of said lugs, a finger upon said lever for engaging in conjunction with said lever said clamping member, and an auxiliary hook integrally formed with the supporting member, having a sharp upwardly disposed point and being adapted to engage part of the curtain for positively holding the same in its folded form against displacement, substantially as described.
