Be it-known that I, GonFRnY' S. MAHN,

a citizen of the United States, residingatthe city of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania,

have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cigar-Head Protectors, of

which the following isa specification;

1 My invention'has relation to a wafer-like protector for that extremity of the cigar des-' .ignated as the butt-endand detachably embracing such end so as not to interfere with its drawing when the opposite .end of the cigar is lighted; and said protector integrally formed with ameans to grip the cigar .while held in the mouth, so. that neither the lips or tongue come in direct ontact'with the tobacco of the cigar; and in such connection, in particular, my said 111- vention has relation to the provision of a protector of a highly sanitary and safe naturefor smokers use and in WlllCl'l the same'is detachably applied to the cigar so as to become a fixturethereof and to be sold therewith.

Hitherto Inouth-pieces'have been made in various forms, such as parafiined paper, wood and even thick rubber tubing for smokers use, so as to hold the end of acigar while being consumed, but my invention differs from such devices in that I a wafer-like protector which closely fits the head of the cigar and conforms to the end in which is provided a transverse opening.

My invention stated in general terms, consists of a wafer-like protector of elastic or pliable material for application to the head of a cigar and provided with a transverse opening of less diameter than the base so as to provide a basal ring, the protector closely fitting the terminal wrappings and butt end ofthe cigar and to become permanently attached thereto and said basal ring encompassing and fitting the said butt end, thereby providing an entirely sanitary and safe protector for the said defined purpose.

Referring to the drawings a, represents a cigar, one extremity of which is designated as the butt end 0 to which-is, detachably fitted the wafer-like elastic molded protector A,- of .my .invention. This protector has preferably formedintegral therewithnear the rounded end (1 a bead (1 as clearly illustrated in Fig. 2, to grip the teeth there-' with in supporting the cigar a, in the mouth.

Beyond the bead a the protector is rounded so as to snugly conform to the butt end al of the cigar, and iniwhich end is provided an opening forming abasal ringa, asclearly shown in Figs. 2-and 3.
