A still furt er object of the invention is to provide a rack having arms which may be easily attached or detached from a vertical supporting rod.

Another object of the invention is to pro vide a device of this nature which shall consist of a small number of parts, which may be cheaply manufactured, and one which will be a general improvement over those now in use.

The invention also aims to generally improve devices of this nature, to render them rftore useful, durable and commercially desirable.

With these and other ob'ects in view, as will become more apparery as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and arrangement of parts as I shall hereinafter fully describe and claim.

For a complete understanding of my invention, reference is tofbe had to the fol lowing description and accompanying drawings in which,

These strips support in a vertical position, the metallic rod 6 which has its lower end positioned in the socket 3 and which extends upwardly through the opening 5. The vertical rod 6 supports a plurality of swinging arms 7 each of which com 'irisrs a strip of flat metal bent downwardly at one end arid twisted as at 8 for the purpose of bringing the end portion 9 in a plane at right. angles to the main portion oi the arm. Each of the end portions 9 is provided with a V shaped end openin notch or recess 10, the walls of which are ieveled downwardlyand inwardly for the purpose of providing sharpened edges for engagement with the rod 6. In order that the arms? may be supported upon the rod 6, I provide each of them with an extension 11 which has its outer end bent to form a hook for engagement with the rod 6.

It will be seen that this construction provides an arm which when attached to thd rod 6 will be supported so as to swing hor'i zontally and which may be raised or lowcred to any desired position. The leverage produced by the outwardly extending arm causes the beveled walls of the notch 10 to bite into the rod 6, and the greater the weight upon this arm the more tightly will the walls of the notch 10 bind against the rod 6. In order to shift the arm vertically, it is only necessary to grasp the outer end of the same and raise it slightly, which action will cause the Walls of the notch 10 to loosen their hold upon the rod after which the arm may be either raised or flowered. To remove the arms 7 from the su porting rod 6 it is only necessary to turn them into a position parallel with the front face of the body 1. after which the hooked extensions ,llmay be disengaged from the rod 6 by tilting the arms upwardly.

The free ends of the arms 7 may he formed in various shapes such as the-hook-13, and loop 142, for the purpose of supporting ob jects of different shapes. lVhen in use the rack is secured to a supporting member by suitable fastenings passing through the openings 15 formed in the body 1.

What I claim is A rack of the 'class described, comprising a body, transverse supporting strips secured in spaced relationship to one face of said body, a vertical rod supported by said strips, an arm horizontally positioned upon said rod; said arm comprisinga fiat metal strip bent downwardly at one end and twisted so as .to bring the extreme end portion of the arm in a plane atright angles to the aunt and adapted to engage the body portion, said end portion being formed with an end opening V shaped notch, the walls of which are beveled downwardly and inwardl and ahooked extension extending longitn inally from the body portion of the supporting rod at a point above said V shaped notch.
