WARDROBE ATTACHMENT FOR BEDS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 18, 1913.
Application filed April 4, 1911, Serial No. 618,865.. Renewed May 16, 1912., Serial ,No. 697,786.
To all whom it may mmcern:
lie it known that I, JULIA if}. lnunnrs, u citizen of the United States, residing at. New York, in the county of New York nut f'ilntc of New York, have invented new and useful '[inprovomcnts in. Wardrobe Attachments for Beds, oi which the following); is u specification.
This invention relates to wardrobe nttnchments for beds of that class in which. (ll'ttWUt' supporti means are suspended from the sidc rails ot' the bed.
The principal object oi? the present invention is to provide a. simple and improved construction of parts which will euuhle the drawer supporting uictms'l to be closely and .tusnnu: eon. .v'lSiS in die iin rored construction and novol :lll'ttftlQt-tlltll'tl' and combination of part-s which will he hcreinnfter fully described and purticulurly pointed out in the cit-tints. ln the turcompnflying drmriug'hns been *uotrnted rt situph" and preferrrd. tor-in oi? in 'tflilltill, it bcingg, luiwimyr :ler:-'tood no lin'rilniion is nece: nri unideto precise structural details; therein (.X" hihited, but that change, ions itt'ltl niodifientions; within the 'ni'dri ntttu'hnient. l t it view in s de ole utiou of one oi? the subsl't'tlls' of the l'fiiltl 'bowiu r the drnwer support ng; menus associntml therewith collnpr-ed or .l'uldt-d. Fig. i is n perspective view showing supportingbrneliets adapted to be uro'eociz'tted with opposite side rails. detimherfl, tcgcetlui-r with the drawer guides Sllli pm'lit i by said brackets. Fig. 4 is a horizontal sectional View tnlcen through one of the side rails of the bed and showing the drawer supporting menus folded or collapsed. Fig. 5 is a sectionnl detail view taken on the line 5-5 in Fig. 1. Fig. 6 a perspective view illustrating :L modified method of connecting the drawer guides with at supporting ln-ncket. Fig. 7 is a perspective detail view illustrating the modified form of drawer guide.
Corresponding parts in the several figuros are denoted by like characters of referenee.
.lirotnlly :ls.- .oeinted \vitlreach side rail 1 ol. n. bed frame. are two bracket members 2 and it. it being understoodtlmt the brackets Q, '3 -...-:soeinted with the? opposite side rails are to be lt'ientcd. in diagonally opposite relution. it follows that-the brackets 3 will likewise be disposelil adjacent to diagonally opposite. corners of the bed frame.
Pivotnlly mounted upon the inner face of curb bracket member 2, adjacent to the lower end of such bracket member, is a plate 4; braving eyes 5 with which one end of a drawer guide consisting of a dhanncl bar 6' s l'iiugrdly connected b v'ineans of n pintle 7 extending through the eyes frond through tivelv onnocl'tul with supporting brackets 2. t uttnurentz to the bend end and with smul'ur ummy-tun;- brackets udpieenttot-ho foot end oi the bed fl'tilll(i, serve to support; a

detachably connected with eyes 10 upon the.
if it shall be desired to'use a tier of two or more drawers, each bracket member 2 is provided with as many additional. pivoted plates or hinge members as may be required, a single additional plate designated 4 having been shown being sufficient for the purpose of illustratior, said plate or hinge member being formed with eyes 5 for the reception between them of an eye 8 formed at one end of a drawer guide consisting of a channel bar (3, the connection being established by means of a pintle 7. The auxiliary draw er guide (3 which is horizontally channeled, as shown, is provided at its opposite end with an eye 9' detachably connected with eyes 10 upon the bracket member 3 by means of a fastening member, such as a pin 11. The auxiliary drawer D is provided with guide members, such as flanges l3 engaging the channel bars constituting the guides (3.
The bracketmembers 2 are preferably provided with lugs l 'l: constituting stop members and lying in the path of the pivotally supported plates or hinge members so as to sustain the latter in extended or operative position. Suitable stop members, as indicated at 15, may also be associated with theside rails 1 to limit the swinging move' ment of the bracket members 2 and 3.
It will be evident: from the :t'oregoing description that when the bracket members 2 and 3 depend from the opposite side rails and said bracketmembers are connected together by the drawer guides, a structure will be afforded upon which wardrobe drawers may be conveniently supported, and said drawers may be made of a length nearly equal to that of the bed so that ladies gmvns may be placed therein without folding. Vihen the bed is knocked down r t rage 'or shipment, the pivoted plates or hinge members 4, at. may be turned to present the hinge pins or pintles 7, 7 transversely of 43 the bracket member 2,.thus enablin drawer guides, which have been previously disconnected from the opposite bracket member 3, to be folded compactly uponthe sidc rail 1, as indicated in Figs. 2, 4 of the drawings; The bracketmembers 3 may likewise be folded compactly upon the side rail, as
seen in Fig. The bed frame including the supporting means for the wardrobe drawers may thus be packed in a very convenient 5 compact form 'forshipinent or storage.
Under the modified construction illu-s-' trated in Figs. 6 and ,7 the several bracket members, one of which is here indicated by numeral 16, are provided with keepers, one 0 of which appears at 17, for the reception of hook members 18 formed at either end of the drawer guides, one of which is here shown at 19. Under this modification it is preferred and intended that the two ends of each drawer guide be detachably connected guides pivoted on the brackets.
the
.with the bracket .meml'iers depending from the side rails, thus providing a knock down construction which enables the drawer guides to be detached and packed in small compass together with the side rails of the bed.
When an upper drawer, as D,'is used, it will be seen that the horizontally channeled drawer guides (3 which receive the guide" -nei'i'ed, the operation and advantages of this invention will be readily understood.
It will be seen that a construction has been" provided whereby the. supporting means of a wardrobe attachment may be associated with a bed frame in such a fashion as to enable it to be easily and compactly folded when the bed frame is knocked down for storage or transportation. The construction is simple. and inexpensive, and is found to be thoroughly etlicient for the purposes for which it is provided.
Having thi s described the invention, what is claimed as liew, iss- "1. In a. wardrobe attachment for beds, supporting n'ien'ibers connected with the side rails of the bed frame, and drawer guides detachably associated with said members.
2. In a wardrobe attachment for beds, drawer supporting brackets, and drawer 1in a wardrobe attachment for beds. supporting brackets pivotally connected with the side rails of the bed frame, and drawer guides movably associated with said brackets.
