T0 ZZZ whom t may concern Be it known that I, ILLIAM McGowan, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fall River, in the county of Bristol and State of llllassachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pillow-Sham Holders, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to holders for pil low shams and more particularly to that class of holders which are adapted to be removably attached to the bedstead for the purpose of holding the pillow shams in position, and has for its object the providing of a simple, economical and efficient pillow sham holder.

A further object of my inventiOn is to provide a pillow sham holder so constructed as to enable the same to carry the pillow sham at all times and adapted to operate in such a manner as to permit of the uncovering of the pillows wit-hout the removal of thc device from the bed.

A further object of my invention is to provide a device of this character with means for receiving the sham and holding the same in position when not covering the pillows.

lith these and other objects in view my invention consists in the particular combination and arrangement of the parts of a pillow sham holder as set forth in the following specification, and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

Referring to the drawing wherein similar reference numbers represent similar parts wherever used, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the head portion of a bed with my device in position with the sham covering the pillows; Fig. 2 is a top view of my device as removed from the bed head; Fig. 3 is a side view of my device showing in full lines the same position of the frame as in Fig. 1, and showing in dotted lines a position taken by my device when the sham is raised.

4 represents an ordinary bedstead formed of the usual round sections.

5 is a collar provided with the two circular ears 6 and 7, at its forward extremity, and provided with a hook and eye or similar connection 8 at its rearward portion. A circular strip of felt 9 is preferably interposed between the bed rail 4 and the collar 5. Extending from between the ears 6 and 7 is a hook-like portion 10 provided at its Specification of Letters Patent.

rearward extremity with a circular portion 11, preferably of the same shape as the ears 6 and 7 of the collar 5, and adapted to bear against the inner ear 7 by means of the leaf spring 12, the tension of which may be adj usted by means of the screw 13 which passes through the centers of the ear 6 and the rearward portion 11 and the spring 12, and threaded into the ear 7, thus serving to hold these elements in place. A second screw 14 is provided for tightening the collar 5 around the bed rail.

The forward portion of the hook member 10 is formed with a slot 15 through which is inserted the wire 16 formed with an eye 17 adapted to receive the set screw 18 threaded into the hook and passing through the slot whereby the wire is locked to the hook-like member. A rearwardly extending bracket 19 is fitted over the inner side of the bracket of the hook member 10 and is held in place by the set screw 18, which threads into the side of the bracket. rThis bracket is adapted to receive a bar 20' provided with a tape 21 attached thereto. The bar 20 and the wire 16 extend across the head of the bed and are fastened at the other side to a similar device as shown in Fig. l.

A sham 23 is sewed loosely to the tape 21 bn the rod E20, and is folded backward at 24 and allowed to hang down over the wire 16, thus covering the pillows. When it is desired to remo-ve the sham from over the pillows the wire 16 is raised to the position shown in dotted lilies in Fig. 3, the device rotating upon the axis of the set screw 13. The sham is then folded down over the wire and is held in place by the bearing of the wire against the head of the bed as at 25, the tension of the spring 12 serving to hold the ears 6 and 7 and the circular portion of the hook member 11 in close relation to each other. rlhis relation may be regulated by means of the set screw 13.

I realize that considerable variation is possible in the details of construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of my invention, and I therefore do not intend to limit myself to the specific form shown and described.

Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1 In a pillow-sham holder the combination of a clamping collar formed in t-wo parts and having expanded outer ends and ear-shaped inner ends, means intermediate said ends for drawing the two parts together to cause them to clamp the post of a bed, aplate located between the inner` ends of said clamping members and having a. slotted hook-shaped lower end extending beyond the same, a leaf-spring mounted between said plate and one of said clamping members, a screw passing through one of said clamping members, the spring and the plate, and threaded into the opposite clamping member whereby tension may be applied to the plate, a bracket adapted to receive a sham-carrying bar and having a depending lower portion provided with side flanges extending over the side edges of the plate, a wire extending through the slot in the plate and provided with an eye at its upper end and bent at an angle at its lower portion and adapted to pass under the lower portion of the pillow-sham, and a screw passing through the plate, the eye of the wire and the bracket.

2. In a pillow-sham holder the combination with a clamping collar formed in two part-s, means for 'detachably securing them together at one end, and ears formed at the other end thereof, 4means intermediate the ends for drawing the two parts together to cause them to clamp the post of the bed to which they are applied, a plate located between the ears, a hook provided with a slot extending from the plate, a leaf spring mounted between said plate and one of the ears, a screw passing through the ears, the spring and the plate and threaded into one of the ears, whereby t-he parts may be drawn together, a bar to which the pillowsham is adapted to be secured at its upper edge, an arm carrying the bar, said arm being provided at its lower end with flanges extending over the edge of the plate whereby movement of said plate will cause movement oi" said arm, a screw passing through the slot in the hook and threaded into the arm, a wire formed with an eye at its upper end and at its lower portion bent at right angles adapted to pass under the lower portion of the pillow-sham, said wire being secured to the hook but extending through the slot with the screw of the hook passing through the eye.
