Description
ALBERT G. CARLING', OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
BRUSH.
specification of :Letters Patent.
lPatented Feb. d, ilt.
Application filed March 11, 1912. Seria No. 682,919.
T0 all whom t may concern: 3 Be it known that l, ALBERT G. CARLINO., a citizen `of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Brush, of which the following is a full, clear, and eXact description. l
The present invention relates to ybrushes and more particularly to a brush for use in scrubbing and cleaning the hands.
The object of the invention is to produce a hand cleaning brush to be provided with bristles for scrubbing and cleaning the hands and nails, and also provided with a scraper whereby oil and grease may be eiectually removed and thus permit effect-ive operation of the bristles in thoroughly cleansing the skin and nails of the hand.
To the above ends the present invention consists of the improved toilet brush and the combined brush and scraper which will be hereinafter described and claimed.
Similar reference characters will be employed in the specification and drawings to designate corresponding parts.
yThe invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which,
Figure 1 shows a top plan view of the brush; Fig. 2 is a perspective view; and Fig. 3 a longitudinal sectional view.
In the drawing A indicates the combined brush and scraper as an entirety, it having a body portion consisting of the superimposed oblong blocks a and which will be preferably rounded at their ends as shown at a and b. The block a will be provided with a set of relatively short bristles 0 and the block with a set of relatively longer bristles c. Between the blocks a and b there is inserted a relatively thin plate d which will preferably be made of some suitable non-corrosive sheet metal, as for instance aluminum, and the plate d will be longer and wider than the blocks a and so as to project therefrom forming a scraping edge d which will be preferably. scalloped as shown at d2.
As shown clearly in the drawing, the plate d at its ends projects a. considerable distance beyond the ends of the blocks a and Z9 and will be dished or concaved as shown at sw-d3, forming the upturned shell-like Scrapers d* arranged to approximately tit the palm of the human hand when used to remove oil, paint or grease therefrom.
Any suitable means may be employed to secure the blocks a and b and the interposed scraper in assembled position as for instance the screws s.
It is a common occurrence for painters, engineers7 chauffeurs and machinists to get their hands smeared with paint, oils, etc., and before they can effectually remove the same, by the use of soap and water and other cleansing compounds, they must remove the excess of material by scraping. For this purpose, the device which has been described and which is shown in the drawing is very effective and by grasping it with the hand, either the longitudinal parallel side edges of the scraper may be used, or the shell-like scrapers at the ends brought into play as conditions may require.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent: l
l. A s a new article of manufacture, a brush having a body formed of two super imposed members and provided with ametal plate secured bet-Ween said members, the plate being of a length and width greater than that of themembers and having a scalloped edge, the end portions of the plate projecting a, greater dist-ance beyond the ends of the members than the sides thereof, the said end portions being dished and having a rounded edge.
2. As a new article of manufacture, a brush having a metal plate secured to its back, the plate being of a length and width greater than that of the back and having a scalloped edge, the end portions of the plate projecting a greater distance beyond the back than the sides, the said end portions being dished and having a rounded edge.
3. As a new article of manufacture, -a brush having a metal plate secured to its back, the plate being of a length and width greater than that of the back, the end portions of the platebeing dished and having a rounded edgeg ln testimony whereof l have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ALBERT G. CARLNG.
