JOHN BUDLEINER, OF ALLEN'IOVVN, PENNSYLVANIA.
REFRIGERATOR-LOCK.
Application filed August 27, 1910, Serial No. 579,337.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 31, 1912.
Renewed November 12, 1912. Serial No. 731,034.
To all whomit may concern:
Be it known that i. .loriN RI'DLETNER, a citizen of the United States of America. residing at Allentown. in the county of l..c high and State of Pennsylvania. have invented certain new and useful improvements in liefrigerator-Locks, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the acconmanying drawing.
This invention relates to looks es ieciallv adapted for use in connection with refrigerators. and the principal objectof the same is to provide a novel locking bolt and a key actuated plate for preventing movement of said bolt so that the said bolt can be normally retained in a locking position.
In carrying out the objects of the invention generally stated above it will be understood, of course, that the essential features thereof are necessarily susceptible of changes in details and structural arrangements, one preferred and practical embodiment of which is shown in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a rear view of the lock. the rear plate thereof being removed, and showing the locking bolt freely movable. Fig. 2 is a similar view. the bolt being locked against movement. Fig. is a central vertical sectional view of the improved lock. Fig. l is a detail view of the detachable rear plate of the lock casing. Fig. 5 is a detail perspective view of a cam plate for holding the locking bolt against movement. Fig. 6 is a fragmentary perspective view of an arm forming a part of the locking bolt.
Referring to the accompanying drawings by nume'als, it will be seen that the improved lock comprises a casing 1 provided with ornamental flat flanges 2 provided with openings 3 for the reception of fasteners for attaching the casing to a. door, wall or the like. Internally the casing 1 is provided with diagonally disposed laterally projecting hollow internally threaded lugs 4. At one end, the lower portion of the casing is provided with a vertical slot 5 the upper and lower ends of which are provided with seats 6. A rear plate 7 is Provided for the casing 1, said plate is provided with openings that aline with the lugs -it and through which screws pass for engaging said lugs to fasten the plate T over the open rear of the said casing. Said plate 7 is also provided with an opening S that alines with the keyhole 9 of the casing 1. and with a lower extension 10 that is fitted over the slot 5 and engages the seats 6.
A stub shaft 11 projects centrally through the upper portion of the casing. The outer portion of said shaft is equipped with a handle 12 and the inner end of said shaft is squared and has a locking bolt 13 fast thereon. Said bolt projects forwardly from said shaft and terminates in an angular end 14 that projects through and is vertically movable in slot The rear portion of said bolt terminates in a pendent arm 15 that is engaged by a finger 16 of a cam plate 17. Said plate 17 is pivotally mounted in casing 1 adjacent the key hole 9 and is provided with a substantially V -shaped notch 18 that is engaged by a key to rock said plate to engagement with arm 15 or to release the same therefrom. The finger 16 projects laterally from an extension 16 of the plate 17 and being flat, forms an abutment that firmly engages the free end of arm 15 so that normally the bolt 13 is held immovable. A spring 19 in casing 1 opposes movement of bolt 13 in one direction, and another spring 20 similarly opposes movement of the cam plate 17.
It will be seen from the foregoing that this invention provides means whereby the bolt can. be readily used as a latch by manipulating the handle 12. And also that by rocking the plate 17 to engagement the said bolt can be held in a locking position.
hat I claim as my invention is A lock comprising a casing provided with an end slot in its lower portion, a stub shaft projecting through the front wall of said casing. a handle carried by said shaft, a bolt pivotally mounted on the inner end of said shaft and provided with a downwardly inclined forward portion that terminates in a lateral extension, said extension being slidable in said slot, said bolt also being provided with a rear extension that terminates in an offset right ungularly projecting pe11d I In testimony whereof I hereunto aifix my out arm. and a locking cam 1n szud caslng slg'nature 111 presence 01'' two WIU'IGSSQS. pronded Wlth :1 key notch and an excensmn T v1 provided with a flat right nnguhuily 1)10- JOHA LUDLPLN jecting finger, said finger being adapted for WVitnesses:
