Description

J. D. BAIRD. SKELETON SKIRT MARKER.
APPLICATION TILED NOV.18, 1910. Patented Dec.- 31, 1912.
INVENTOR. I
ATTORNEY.
r fif i zm/ JENNIE D. BAIRD, OF ST. CHARLES, MISSOURI.
SKELETON SKIRT-MARKER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 31, 1912.
Application filed November 18, 1910. Serial No. 593,109.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JENNIE D. BAIRD, a citizen of the United States, residing at No. 609 Houston street, in the city of St. Charles, in the county of St. Charles and State of Missouri, have invented the Skeleton Skirt-Marker, a new and useful skirt marking and measuring device, of which the following is the specification.
My invention relates to skeleton skirt markers and has for its principal object to provide a device of that character, whereby an exact skirt measurement may be secured irrespective of a deformation in the figure upon which the marker is used.
In accomplishing this object, I have provided the improved details of structure hereinafter described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure I is a perspective view of a skirt marker constructed according to my invention. Fig. II is a cross section of a base hoop on the line II-II, Fig. I.
Referring more in detail to the parts 1 designates a waist band which is preferably constructed of heavy cotton material and is adjustable to fit persons of different waist measurement.
a 2 designates the base hoop which is preferably formed of two semi-circular sections of heavy felt, each section comprising two layers of material having longitudinal stitching 3 for forming longitudinal channels for containing reinforcements at, preferably consisting of aluminum wire.
The two base sections are preferably united by straps 5, one end of each of which is secured to one of the sections and the other provided with a snap socket for application to a button 6 on the opposite section.
Fixed permanently to the belt l are a number of straps 7, the lower ends of which are woven through apertures in the base hoop and turned back and connected with the body portions by buckles 8, whereby the length of the straps may be varied, all of the straps being preferably marked in inches and fractions thereof.
In using the marker, the device is applied to the body of a person to be measured for a skirt, by securing the belt to the persons waist, so that the base hoop is suspended from the straps. The straps are then adjusted so that the hoop hangs evenly and at the proper height, the adjustment being secured by adjusting the straps through the medium of the buckles 8.
With the marker in proper position, the skirt can be marked by using chalk, or otherwise.
After the skirt has been marked, the marker may be removed and afterward used on an artificial form, so that the dressmaker can complete the garment without the necessity of fitting on the person for whom the skirt is intended.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new therein and desire to secure by Letters-Patent is A skirt marker comprising a waist band, straps on the waist band for supporting a base hoop, and a base hoop having reinforcing wires disposed therein, said hoop being formed of fabric and having interior channels the said wires being extended through said channels.
