PPhRATUsFOR DRYING CLOTHES AND OTHER ARTICLES. i
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, HJALMAR Lt'wotis'r, a subject of the King of Sweden, residing at Birger Jarlsgatan 21, Stockholm, Sweden, have invented new and useful ln'lproven'ients in Apparatus. for Drying (,lothes and other Articles, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to apparatus fo' drying clothes and the like and has for its object to provide an in'iproved apparatus particularly useful in drying large articles such as sheets, table cloths and the like, after same have been washed.
According to this invention the clothes or the like to be dried are supported upon roll-. el's provided with longitudinal channels and cross channels diverging from the same in order to distribute air over the surface of the clothes from the inside. said air being blown into the longitudinal channels. The rollers are preferably provided with longitudinal grooves inthe bottom of which the cross channels discharge. for facilitating the uniformdistribution 'ot the air over the clothes and also the feeding forward of the clothes over the rollers by rotating the latter which may, for this purpose. be connected to a motor by suitable transmission gear. Further. pipes may be arranged laterally with respect to the rollers and also in a lower plane than said rollers the said pipes being provided with apertures or nozzles of suitable ,form for blowing air on the clothes from the outside, said pipes and the interiors of the rollers preferably being con- Finally, in the air conduit or conduits. either before or after the passage through the fan or both, heating elenients, which may be electrically heated. may be arranged for heating the air.
To enable the invention to be fully understood, it will now be. described by reference to'the accompanying drawings in which one suitable form of apparatus constructed according to the invention is shown combined with a washing machine.
Figure 1 is a side VlQV of the apparatus. Fig. 2 is a plan view of same and Fig. 3 shows a detail of the drying apparati-is in vertical cross-section.
In a frame 1, adapted to be supported in any suitable manner, a number of rollers are journaled side by side, each of said rollers preferably consisting of an outer wooden Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Dec. Application filed March 26, 1912., Serial No. 686,317.
are present, channels orholes 4 open. Aha
are arranged having discharge nozzles -6-0n= 5 communicate with branches from a common pipe 7 into which air is blown by means of a fan 8. The device now clescrlbed may preferably be combined with an electrically chine (as shown) in such manner, thatthe also may be employed for rotating the roll crs 2, 3. For this purpose, each of the said wheel 15 which engages with a worm 16, the common spindle of sald worms being driven from the washlu niacbme bv a ullev tra s- C u mission as shown.
The d1 111" a) aratns thus described 1S particularly intended for clothes of comtable cloths and the like. The clothes are preferably suspended as shown in Fig. 3 their ends being fastened together by means of a clasp or the like so that the pieces may be rotated continually without fallin off the rollers. In this way, all parts 0 the clothes are exposed successively to hot air currents from both sides whereby the drying will be readily etfected.
Having now particularly described the nature of my invention and the manner of its operation, what I claim is:
1. In apparatus for drying clothes and the like, in combination, rollers adapted to support the clothes. each roller being provided with'longitudinal grooves in its surface, each roller having an interior longitudinal channel and cross channels orpermeans for leading air into said longitudinal portion 2 which may be externally grooved (Fig. 3) and a central pipe 3 of metaLx- At: the periphery of each roller and preferably in the bottom of the groove in Silll 1"if such 6O distance below the rollers and between the: samev as seen from above, stationary "pipes? driven and electrically heated washing mawashing receptacle 9 having heating ele-.

In apparatus for drying clothes and channels or perforations leading from the the like, in combination. rollers adapted to former to the peripheral surface of the support the clothes, each roller having an roller, means for leading air into said longiinterior longitudinal channel and-cross chantudinal channel, whereby a current of air nels or perforations leading from the former will be distributed over the surface of the to the peripheral surface of the roller, means i clothes on the rollers, and means for rotating for leading air into said longitudinal chansaid rollers, whereby the clothes will be ro nel, whereby a current of air will be distated. tributed over the surface of the clothes on In testimony whereof I have signed my the rollers, and stationary air pipes ar name to this specification in the presence of ranged below the rollers and adjacent to the two subscribing witnesses. clothes hanging from said rollers, said pipes HJALMAR LOFQUIS'I. having discharge Qnozzles directed toward \Vitnesses Gnn'rn PRINE, BIRGER Nonornnn'r.
