The object of the present invention is to provide a new and improved toy wagon which can be readily moved about and used as a sand or a dirt wagon and which is built of easily separable pieces to allow a child to readily take the wagon apart and to reunite the pieces and rebuild the wagon thus furnishing means to keep the child occupied and at the same time serving as a means for educational and manual training purposes.

In order to accomplish the desired result use is made of a running gear for supporting a wagon bed and comprising front and rear axles, front and rear wheels removably held on the axles, a reach provided at its rear end with a tenon engaging an aperture in the rear axle, the forward end of the reach having an integral fifth wheel, a

front bolster on top of the said fifth wheel,.

a king bolt connecting the front axle, fifth wheel and front bolster together, a rear bolster on top of the rear axle, and a bolt connecting the rear axle, the reach tenon and the rear bolster together.

A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of a toy wagon having a bed for carrying sand or dirt; Fig. 2 is an inverted plan view of the same; Fig. 3 is a transverse section of the same on the line 3-8 of Fig. 2; and Fig. 4: is a similar view of the same on the line 4t-l of Fig. 2.

The front and rear axles A and B carry front and rear wheels 0 and D removably held on the said axles and normally retained in place by suitable retaining devices E, such as washers and pins or washers and bolts. The front and rear axles A and B are connected with each other by a reach F terminating at its forward end in an integral fifth wheel F resting on top of the front axle A and engaged by a king bolt G extending through the front axle A and the fifth wheel F. The rear end. of the reach F terminates in a tenon F engaging a corre-- sponding aperture in the middle of the rear axle B, and the bolt Gr passes through the axle B and the tenon F to fasten the latter in .place on the rearaxle. The front axle A is provided with pole houndsl-I removably fastened in. place on the axle by longitudinally-extending bolts H and also by .the king bolt G which passes through a tenon in the rear end of the pole bar of the hounds H. Hindkhounds I are connected by longitudinal bolts 1 to the other axle B and by a transverse bolt I to the reach E.

On the top of the fifthzwheel F rests, a front. bolster J engaged by the king bolt Gr previously mentioned so that the front bolster J is free to turn on the said king bolt G. The sides of the front bolster J are pro vidcd with. side arms or posts J removably fastened in position by bolts J extending vertically through the side arms J and the outer ends of the front bolster J. A rear bolster K rests on the rear axle B and is engaged by the bolt G, and the said rear bolster K is provided with side arms or posts K fastened in place by vertical bolts K the same as the side arms J of the front bolster J.

- The wagon bed mounted on the bolsters J and K consists of a series of bottom bars L arranged one alongside the other and resting on top of the bolsters J and K, the outermost bottom bars L abutting against the inner faces of the side arms J and K. The terminals of the bottom bars L are preferably re duced to form handles to permit of conveniently lifting said bottom bars L whenever it is desired to dump the sand or ground contained in the wagon bed. On top of the outermost bottom bars L rest the sides N of the wagon bed and vertical bolts 0 serve tofasten the sides N in place by passing vertically through the sides N, the outermost bottom bars L and the bolsters J and K. The sides N are provided at their inner faces near the front and rear ends with vertically-extending grooves N engaged by end boards N resting on top of the intermediate bottom bars L. A seat P is provided on the under side with longitudinally-extending grooves P fitting the sides N at the top to hold the seat P against displacement on the sides of the wagon bed. The bolsters J and K are provided with sets of apertures for the passage of the bolts J K and O, and whenever it is desired to place a differently-constructed wagon bed in position on the bolsters then such apertures can be used for attaching such wagon bed to the bolsters. From the foregoing it will be seen that by the arrangement described the various pieces forming the running gear and the wagon bed can be readily detached to allow a child to readily take the wagon apart and to permit the child to reunite the pieces and rebuild the wagon.

Having thus described my invention, 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Let- 1. A toy wagon having a running gear comprising front and rear axles having central bolt openings, front and rear wheels carried by said axles, a reach connecting the said axles and comprising a solid beam having an enlarged, substantially semi-circular forward end provided with a central opening and solid except for said opening, the rear end of said beam being tenoned and apertured, and the rear axle being mortised to receive said tenoned rear beam end, and

bolts for connecting the forward and rear beam ends to the forward and rear axles respectively and adapted to pass through the apertures of these parts when alined.

A toy wagon having a running gear comprising front and rear axles having central bolt openings extending vertically and the rear axle having a horizontal mortise bisecting its opening, a reach connecting the axles and comprising a solid beam having an enlarged, substantially semi-circular forward end provided with a central opening, said enlarged end being disposed on the forward axle with its opening in alinement with the axle opening and being solid except for its said opening, the rear beam end be ing tenoned for engagement within the mortise of said rear axle and having an opening through its tenon to register with the axle opening, and bolts adapted for passage through the alined openings of the forward and rear beam ends and the forward and rear axles whereby to secure these parts in such manner as to permit of their ready disen 'agement.
