WILLIM F. ANKLAM, .10F DETROIT, MICHIGAN', ASSIGNOR To C. M. HALL LAMP "CFOMPANY, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN, A CORPORATION F MICHIGAN.
LAMP.
a c itizenof the' United. States of America,
' residing at Detroit, in the county of Wayne with respect to sleeve F and State of Michigan, haveinvented certain neW and useful Improvements in Lamps, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings y The invention relates to lamps of that type in which the illuminanti-.is placed at the focus of a parabolicfreflector and more particularlytolamps employing incandescent electricbulbs.' With such constructions it is necessary -to .adjust the position of the bulb with respect to theireflect'or .to securethe v proper focus, the lamp filaments varying in position.
The present invention relates to .a novel construction Y Afocus',. ,wliicl'i broadly described consists of an adjustment kfor the parabolicv reflector the bulb andlamp lagasing which are in relatively xed position, there- -by avoidingethe necessity of flexing electrical connections to the bulb.
The invention furtherVA consists in the construction of means for guiding and adjusting the reflector and further in various details of construction as hereinafter set forth.
In the draWings,-Fgure l is a central longitudinal section through thelanip; Fig. 2 is a perspective View showing ortions of the lamp case andreflector detac led; Fig. 3 is a section through the adjusting means.
A is the outer casing of arlamp which is preferably of parabolic form and B is the paralmlic reflector arranged within theouter case.
C is a guide post arranged at the center of the outer case and secured thereto, said post being hollow and forming a lamp D with which the electric bulb E is engaged.' The outer surface of this post is cylindrical and forms a guide for engaging a flange or upon the reflector B permitting of' a relative longitudinal movement. The outer end of the reflect-or has aslidable engagementwith the case which as shown, is formed by providing an voutwardly extending disk flange G on the reflector termniat` ing in a rearwardly extending cylindrical flange I-I, the latter slidably engaging a cylindrical flange Lupon the disk flange J se cured to theouter case. 'l
y.Specification of Letters lPatent. Appneat'ion med Mare-h 16,
of mean-s for adjusting the j trical 1912. serial no. 684,218.
K is a screw-threaded stud extending parallel tothe axis of the case and post C and secured at its rear end to the wall of the ease. This stud passes into engagement with the rotary nut L which is journaled in -a bearing M secured to the flange'G of the reflector, the arrangement being such thatv by rotating the nut L the reflector is moved outward or inward'sliding upon the post C and flange I.
O is a thumb piece on the outer face of the flange G secured to the nut L and forminga means for rotating the same.
The lamp is provided with a suitable door with transparent panel and the lining of this door is arranged 'to abut against the flange J, preferablyhaving a-s'tepped engagement therewith and providing clearance at the point opposite the thumb piece O.
In use', when the door of the lamp is closed the reflector can not be adjusted, which prevents unauthorized tampering with the same. When however, it is desired to adjust the reflector to properly focus the lamp, or to throw it out of focus` where a less intense light 1 s required, this may be done by openlng the` doo-r and revolving the lthumb piece O.
The bulb E is engaged in the socket D and the latter is connections (no-t shown) and as the socket is always in fixed relation to the outer case, no ble connectors.
What I claim as my invention is: 4
l. In a lamp, the combination with a case, of a post extending axially Within said ease and secured thereto, a lamp'socket within said post, a parabolic reflector sleeved upon said post, a bearing with which the outer end of' said reflector is slidably engaged, and means for adjusting said reflector.
2. In a. lamp, the combination with av ease. of' a post extending axially within said ease and fixed thereto, a parabolic reflector sleeved upon said post, a cylindrical flange at the outer end of said parabolic reflector. a corresponding cylindrical lflange upon said case with which said reflector flangeis slidably engaged, and a screw adjustment to said case and extending axially in relation Patented Nov. 12, 1912.
