TIE OB BOW.
To ciZZ whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, ADAM H. PRENZEL, a
citizen of the United States, and resident of The invention consists in a bow adapted to be produced from a great variety of kinds of stock, as leather, of any desired thickness, imitation leather, fabric, etc., the bow being very easily produced and assembled from two pieces of stock, and in a manner to dispense with any need for sewing of the pieces together,'or for clips, or other tastenings, and with a maximum economy oi" stock required. .f, i
The invention will be more fully under stood from the following detailed description in connection with the accompanying drawings.
Referring to the drawings: Figure 1 is an elevation showing an illustrative form of one o1 the pieces used in making the bow. Fig. 2 is a similar view of the other piece cooperative therewith. Fig. 3 is a view showing the tie assembled and fastened to a shoe. Fig. 1 is a view showing a. modified form of. one of the elements of the bow adapted to be used as a securing strap, and Fig. 5 is a view similar to Fig. 3, showing such moditied form applied as a securing strap to a shoe.
In the illustrative embodiment shown, a piece of stock .10 of any desired material, thickness, and color, is formed with any preferred peripheral conto'ur for ornamental effect and to simulate the ends of a tied bow, as shown, or otherwise. This piece has two spaced apart. slits 11, 12-, formed transversely therein of av suitable width to receive the tab ends of the other piece. This other piece 1'3, which may likewise be of any preferred color and character or stock, either thesame as that of the piece 10 or different, has a central enlarged portion 14 which is made of a shape to harmonize with the de- Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed June 2, 1911. Serial No. 630,943.
Patented Nov. 5, iota sign of the bow ends as formed on piece 10.- Tabs 15, 16 extend oppositely from the central partli r and these are slipped through the slits l1, 12 to assemble the bow, and are then sewed, or otherwise fastened down upon the snoe, or other piece of wearing apparel, as clearly shown 1n Fig. 3. The de Vice so assembled is adapted with-out material modification to be applied as a strap, and is so shown in Fig. 5, fitted to a shoe. For adaptation to this use the piece 13 has one or both its tab ends 15, 16 lengthened to the extent required for use as a securing strap and one of these ends is formed with a detachable fastening means shown as a button hole 17, to receive a button 18 on the shoe; the other end 15" of the strap may be permanently sewed, or otherwise fastened, to the other side or" the shoe. It is to be understood that in practice any desired number of these straps may be placed side by side along the shoe top for the desired ornamental eti'ect, and likewise that this particular embodiment of the invention is well adapted to other articles of wearing apparel, such as belts, pocket-books, neck-ties, and Other articles wherein securing straps, with ornamental effects are in demand. It is further to be understood that-the particular form of the invention shown, wherein the member 10 carries the major part of the configuration and the member 13 is primarily the means for securing the bow to the shoe or other article, is merely illustrative,
and that in the practice of the invention either of the members may besecured to the shoe by its ends or otherwise, and either may carry themajor portion oi the ornamental design, these changes being mere reversals and variations in design. The bow thus formed is securely held against disarrangement without any special fastening devices whatever between the twoparts, the amount of stock required is reduced to an absolute minimum, and owing to the small sizes of the pieces required these can he produced from small odds and ends of otherwise waste stock, involving a low expenditure for material, while these parts can be instantly assembled together and the complete bow fastened to the part desired very rapidly and without requiring any skilled labor. The ornamental ettects of the how can be Widely varied, and its configuration modified to any extent desired in conformity with the general design or requirements of the shoe or other garment to which it is applied.
' Having described our invention, what we claim as new and desire to secure-by Letters" Patent is: a
1. An article of the kind described, com.-
prising two pieces of stock, one formed to representthe center of a bow and the other the extremities thereof, one of said pieces having transverse slits spaced apart at, each side ofits center, and the other piece having "an enlarged central portion, and reduced endportionspassed through said slits for interlocking engagement, the end portions of one of said pieces beyond the interfitting point being formed to represent the extremities of a bow, and the end portions of the other piece adapted to constitute securing tabs and being normally concealed by the extremities of said-first piece, the pieces be-' ing thus interlocked ,so that the tie is held assembled without 'separate holding means.
3. An article of the kind described, com-I prising a piece having its endsformed to -represent the extremities of a bow, and a second piece having a central portion formed to represent the center ofthe bow,
and with ends adapted to interlock with said first piece to hold the same against displacement, said ends being extended to form a securingstrap, and one end thereof having provision-Ito detachably 'interengage' with a fastener.
4. An article of the kind described, com.-
.prising a piece having ends extending to represent the extremities of a bow, anda second piece interfitting with said first piece by. interlocking slits and tabs the slits being in one member and the. tabs on the other, and said tabs extended to constitute a securing strap, one tab being provided with one portion of a detachable fastening device.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification, in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ADAM H. PRENZEL.
