CARTER, a citizen of theUnited States, and a resident of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented cer-. tain new and useful Improvements in C01- lapsible Display Devices, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to display devices and particularly to that class thereof which are made of thin sheet material such-as paste board and arranged to be collapsed into flat form for shipping and storage and to .be unfolded and se up into display con-- dition. I

The object of the present improvements is to provide a device of the character specified of simple construction, pleasing appear-- ance, and which may be readily shifted from display condition to shipping condition or vice versa.

To these ends my improvements comprise features illustrated in the drawings accompanying this specification wherein Figure 1 is a perspective front view of my improved display device. Fig. 2 is a cross section on line 2, 2 of Fig. Fig. 3 is a perspective front view showing parts of the device partly separated preparatory to being collapsed. Fig. 4 is a vertical section on line 4, 4 of Fig. 1. The scale of Fig. 1 is smaller than that of the other figures.

My improved device comprises a front wall 5, herein illustrated as of rectangular form and as having a rectangular aperture 6 therethrough. Said aperture may be centrally located relatively to the borders of said front wall,

whereby in its illustrated the semblance of a picture Within or behind said aperture 6 I form a paneled portion comprising a back wall 7 to opposite edges .of which are articulated edge walls 8, 9. Said edge walls are supported from front wall 5; one of said edge walls as 9 being articulated to the front wall at 10 in coincidence with one of the edges of aperture 6. As illustrated, edge wall 9 is provided with an extension portion 11 which may be glued or otherwise secured to said" front wall 5. The other edge wall 8 may be provided with a similar, but preferably narrower, extension 12 which is removably secured to that side of front wall 5 opposite edge wall 9. Preferably said edge walls 14, 15 are formed integral with said front wall 5 and scoredfor bending along lines 16, 17, respectively. Said edge walls as 15 are provided at their inner edges with one or more ears 18 for engagement with a ertures as 19, all respectively, in back wall I have chosen to illustrate edge walls 8, 9, 14, 15 in angled or beveled position relatively to the front and back walls, therefore, the end edges of those edge walls which are preferably made integral with front wall 5 are beveled or cut at angles as at 21, 22 of edge wall 14 to correspond with the angular position of walls 8, 9, respectively.

My improved device may be provided with a support as 20, preferably of some well known collapsible type so that it may stand erect or slightly inclined backwardly for stability.

Operation: By withdrawing extension 12 from engagement between strip 13 and front wall 5,'t-he apertures as 19 in back wall 7 will be stripped oil the ears as 18,-whereby edge wall 14, 15 may be folded into the plane of the front wall and back wall 7 may be folded down flat against the rear face of said front wall, whereby the device is reduced to its minimum thickness for stacking and. shipping. A reversal of the operation will restore the device to its extended or display form. I

1. A display device including in combination, two principal members, first,- an integral rectangular front wall having a rectangular opening therethrough, second, an
