This invention relates to machines for= forming .blanks or strips of material, and especially to mechanism for producing pai; per blanks such as are employed in the- .;structureof boxes.

paper blanks for forming the boxes, or
parts Of boxes, are bent or folded into the shape desired, thel fldingi lines being determined by grooves or scores in the blanks, as, for instance, disclosed in applicants application 1909. .The mechanism herein disclosed is particularly ldesigned to feed and cut from a continuous Web blanks or flange strips which may be embodied with other elements into a box, yas disclosed in the aforesaidapplicat-ion, and this application is a division of'. the application above identified.
When the blanks are cut from a continu-A ous Web of material and folded into an article by separate mechanism, it is important to feed the material accurately into cutting position and to cut the blanks therefrom at a delinitepoint so as to produce a blank of predetermined shape and size, and one which lWill efliciently coperate with such ,niiiiihanism as may thereafter act thereupon.

as set forth in the application above identified. Prepared as thusdescribed, the web is delivered to the mechanism which feeds it into the position at which blanks are cut therefrom.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings, 3 represents a `horizontal cross` -piece which is arranged transversely in the upper rear part of the machine and forms part 'of the stationary main frame 'and which serves as a feed table for the web feeding mechanism. The web 1 passes downwardly,
along. the concave side of a curved guide plate 4f arranged at the rear end of the "feed table and -thence horizontally forward over this table and over a cutter blade or plate 5 which is arranged upon the front edge of said table.
6, 7 represent upper and lower feed wheels or rollers which are arranged on opposite sides of the path of t-he web in a position about cent-rally between the front and rear edges of the .feed table and have their pe-` ripheries knurled or roughened so that these surfaces of the feed wheels, which engage with the under and upper sides of the horizontally moving portion of the web midway of its width, obtain a rm grip upon the same and operate to feed it reliably forward v when-the feed wheels or rollers are turned v forwardly. The lower feed roller 7 is ar ranged in a cavity formed in the upper side of the feed table 3 and is mounted on a transverse shaft 8 which is journaled in stationary bearings on the adjacent part of the frame. The upper feed roller 6 is mounted' on a transverse shaft 9 which is journaled loosely at one end in a bearingon the frame, so as tobe capable of a slight vertical oscillation to permit the upper feed roller to adapt itself to slight variations in the thickness of the paper or other stock of which Athe web is made. The upper feed roller is yieldingly held downwardly in engagement with the 'upper side of the web so as to ers and insure reliable feeding of the same. In an'apparatus of the character described,y in combination, means adapted to intermittently feed a grooved web, comprising` gripping rollers disposed wit-hin an edge of the web, oscillatory guides against which the web is pressed adapted to engage the one direction in unison with the web as it is fed, means adapted to positively` move the` 'guides in the opposite direction while the web 1s at rest, and a reci rocatory cutter adapted to sever a blank rom the web in each direction of rnovement of the cutter.
