Abstract

The invention relates to rolling engineering and can be used to measure the linear dimensions of rolled products. A contactless method for measuring height of a hot movable rolled metal includes registration of optical image of rolled metal with appropriate dimensions with two digital cameras with subsequent determination of the dimension in the coordinate systems of raster images read from the first and the second digital cameras and calculating the value of the dimension in real units taking into account parameters of the optical system. The digital cameras are arranged in the space in such a mnner that the second digital camera is rigidly fixed at a certain distance behind the first digital camera, and they are oriented so that optical axes of their lenses lie in one plane perpendicular to the vertical face of rolled metal and parallel to the plane of roller conveyer of rolling mill. Distance and height are calculated using formulas given in the description. The invention provides highly precision measurement of the height of rolled metal at deviations of rolled metal along optical axis of the optical system, and the implementation of the method with use of modern technology allows measurements in real time and without stopping the rolling process.
