Description

Non-volatile display device

The present invention relates to a display device, and more particularly to a non-volatile display device.

A non-volatile display device (Non-Volatile Type Display Apparatus) refers to a display device having a bi-stable state or a multi-stable state, and the non-volatile display device can be maintained without supplying a power source. One of the steady state is at least several hundred milliseconds, so the non-volatile display device can greatly save power consumption.

However, the non-volatile display device has a disadvantage in display. When the drive substrate of the non-volatile display device is damaged and broken, the drive substrate cannot be updated. However, since the display material has a bistable relationship, the non-volatile display device still displays the screen before the update. Since the non-volatile display device is still displaying the screen, the user cannot find out that the drive substrate is damaged, and it is impossible to know that the screen content is an error message before the update. As a result, in some cases, this shortcoming can have a significant impact. For example, when the non-volatile display device is used as a price tag, when the product price is updated via wireless communication, the damaged non-volatile display device will still display before the update. The error message, but if the store does not check the price list and the non-volatile display device, it can not detect that the non-volatile display device has been damaged, so the user will still think that the product is the original price and may cause a wrong decision. Unnecessary disputes.

Therefore, how to provide a non-volatile display device, which can detect the state of the driving substrate in time, thereby improving the use efficiency, is one of the current important issues.

In view of the above problems, an object of the present invention is to provide a nonvolatile display device capable of detecting the state of a driving substrate in time and improving the usability.

To achieve the above object, a non-volatile display device according to the present invention has a display area and includes a non-volatile display material, a driving substrate, and a detecting circuit. The drive substrate is adjacent to one side of the non-volatile display material. The detecting circuit is connected to the driving substrate, and includes a detecting unit and at least one wire. The wire is electrically connected to the detecting unit, and at least a portion of the wire is formed on the driving substrate and located outside the display area. When a detection signal is transmitted to the wire via the detecting unit, if the detecting unit does not receive the detecting signal, it is determined that the driving substrate is damaged.

In one embodiment, the non-volatile display material comprises an electrophoretic material, a cholesteric liquid crystal, an electrowetting material, or a rotating ball.

In an embodiment, the drive substrate has a plurality of pixel electrodes.

In one embodiment, the wires are one or more strands.

In one embodiment, the wires are linear, L-shaped, U-shaped, or O-shaped.

In one embodiment, the total length of the wires or wires is greater than or equal to three-quarters of the total length of the boundaries of the display regions.

In one embodiment, the detection unit is an integrated circuit.

In an embodiment, the detecting unit comprises a plurality of integrated circuits, and the wires are connected to the integrated circuits.

In an embodiment, the detecting unit is disposed on at least one of the driving substrate and a circuit board.

In an embodiment, the circuit board is adjacent to the drive substrate.

As described above, in the non-volatile display device of the present invention, when the driving substrate is broken, the wire of the detecting circuit is disconnected, so that when the detecting signal is transmitted to the wire via the detecting unit, the detecting unit can no longer receive the detecting. The signal, the driving substrate can be used to judge the damage of the non-volatile display device. Therefore, the non-volatile display device of the present invention can detect the state of the driving substrate in time, thereby improving the use efficiency.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS Hereinafter, a non-volatile display device according to a preferred embodiment of the present invention will be described with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein the same elements will be described with the same reference numerals.

1 is a schematic plan view of a non-volatile display device 1 according to a preferred embodiment of the present invention, and FIG. 2 is a cross-sectional view of the non-volatile display device 1 taken along line AA of FIG. 1.

30。Referring to FIG. 1 and FIG. 2, the non-volatile display device 1 has a display area D and includes a non-volatile display material 12, a driving substrate 20, and a detecting circuit 30.

The drive substrate 20 has a plurality of pixel electrodes 21 and a lower substrate 22, and the pixel electrodes 21 are disposed on the lower substrate 22. The material of the lower substrate 22 may be resin, ceramic or glass. A control circuit (for example, a control chip or a control circuit board) 23 is provided on the lower substrate 22, and the control circuit 23 drives the non-volatile display material 12 to display a picture via the pixel electrodes 21. The driving method of the driving substrate 20 may be an active matrix driving or a passive matrix driving; here, the driving method of the driving substrate 20 is an active array driving.

The non-volatile display material 12 is disposed on one side of the drive substrate 20. The non-volatile display material 12 may, for example, comprise an electrophoretic material, a rotating ball, an electrowetting material, a cholesteric liquid crystal, other bistable substances, or multiple stabilizations. State substance. Here, the non-volatile display material 12 is exemplified by an electrophoretic substance, for example, a plurality of charged particles C suspended in a dielectric solution L. In this embodiment, the non-volatile display device 1 further includes a receiving structure 13 , and the receiving structure 13 may have a plurality of micro-cups or a plurality of microcapsules. The accommodating structure 13 of the present embodiment is exemplified by a plurality of micro-cups suspended in the dielectric solution L, and the charged particles C and the dielectric solution L are accommodated in the microcups. .

In addition, the non-volatile display device 1 further includes an upper substrate 14 between the upper substrate 14 and the drive substrate 20. The upper substrate 14 may be flexible or inflexible, and the material of the upper substrate 14 may be resin, ceramic or glass, and the material of the upper substrate 14 may be the same as the material of the substrate 22 under the driving substrate 20 or Not the same.

In this embodiment, the non-volatile display device 1 further includes a common electrode layer 15 which is a transparent electrode layer disposed between the non-volatile display material 12 and the upper substrate 14 and opposite to the driving substrate. The pixel electrodes 21 of 20 are disposed. When a voltage difference is applied between the common electrode layer 15 and the at least one pixel electrode 21, the charged particles C are driven to move and reflect ambient light to present the color of the charged particles C or the dielectric solution L. The material of the common electrode layer 15 may be, for example, indium tin oxide (ITO), indium zinc oxide (IZO), aluminum zinc oxide (AZO), gallium zinc oxide (GZO), or zinc oxide (ZnO).

20。In addition, the non-volatile display device 1 further includes an adhesive layer 17. In the embodiment, the adhesive layer 17 can adhere to the receiving structure 13 and the driving substrate 20 of the non-volatile display material 12.

The detecting circuit 30 is connected to the driving substrate 20 and includes a detecting unit 31 and at least one wire 32. Here, the detecting unit 31 is an integrated circuit and is disposed on the driving substrate 20, and is electrically connected to the control circuit 23. The detecting unit 31 and the control circuit 23 are located on the same circuit board. However, this is only an example. In other embodiments, the detecting unit 31 may include a plurality of integrated circuits, and may not be disposed on the driving substrate 20. The integrated circuit is provided on the drive substrate 20, for example, by wire bonding or flip chip. The wire 32 is electrically connected to the detecting unit 31, and at least a portion of the wire 32 is formed on the driving substrate 20 and outside the display area D. Here, the display area D is defined as a display area corresponding to the effective pixel.

In this embodiment, the two ends of the wire 32 are connected to the detecting unit 31 to form a closed curve (similar to an O-shaped curve), that is, the wire 32 is disposed around the periphery of the display area D. Here, the wires 32 are one strand, and the total length of the wires 32 is greater than or equal to three-quarters of the total length of the boundary of the display region D. The detection can be performed each time the screen is updated, and the detecting unit 31 transmits a detection signal to the wire 32. Therefore, when the driving substrate 20 is broken, a certain point of the wire 32 of the detecting circuit 30 is disconnected, so that when the detecting signal is transmitted to the wire 32 via the detecting unit 31, the detecting unit 31 can no longer receive the detecting signal. This can be judged that the drive substrate 20 is damaged. Of course, the time of detection can also be fixed for a certain period, that is, one test is performed, and the time of the cycle can be changed according to the needs of the customer.

The shape, position, number of the above-mentioned wires 32 and the position of the detecting unit 31 are merely illustrative and are not intended to limit the present invention. Referring to FIG. 3A, the detecting unit 31a of the non-volatile display device 1a is not disposed in the control circuit 23 of the drive substrate 20, but is disposed on one side of the display area D. The two ends of the wire 32 are connected to the detecting unit 31a to form an O-like shape (or a "mouth" shape), that is, the wire 32 is disposed around the periphery of the display area D.

As shown in FIG. 3B, the detecting unit 31b of the non-volatile display device 1b is disposed on another circuit board B, and the circuit board B can be disposed adjacent to the driving substrate 20, so that the detecting circuit 30 can be electrically connected to the driving substrate 20. . The detecting unit 31b is an integrated circuit, and can be disposed on the circuit board B, for example, by wire bonding or flip chip.

Here, the wires 321 and 322 are respectively one-piece and L-shaped, and the detection signal sent by the integrated circuit I1 can be received by the integrated circuit I2; the detection signal sent by the integrated circuit I2 can be obtained by the integrated circuit I1. Received. In addition, the total length of the wires 321 and 322 is greater than or equal to three-quarters of the total length of the boundary of the display region D, whereby a better detection effect can be obtained.
