Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a package for contact lenses, and more particularly to a novel contact lens package and components thereof.
Since the introduction of the market in the 1970s, soft contact lenses have become increasingly popular. Improved methods have reduced manufacturing costs to the point where disposable contact lenses are considered economically worthwhile by users. This situation, along with the extremely sharp competition in the contact lens market, is a novel but inexpensive package that can be individually packaged with soft contact lenses and that can be easily disposed of and that is easy to use. Such packages can be safely transported and stored until the contact lens is removed from the package and the package is discarded.
Contact lenses are small, delicate objects that should be taken care of from the time they are manufactured until they are discarded. Once manufactured, it is typically tested and packaged in a hydrated state for shipment to the user. A well-known contact lens package designed specifically for single contact lens packaging, the so-called "bubble packaging", which typically consists of a molded, rigid plastic container with a flat top surface with a concave well that contains A single contact lens for proper storage of liquids. A soft upper cover is sealed around the top surface of the container for packaging the bubble on the box and transported to the user, and the flexible upper cover is peeled off to take out the lens. An example of a contact lens bubble package that can be disposed of at will is described in U.S. Patent No. 5,722,536.
Contact lenses that are frequently replaced by the user (ie, daily or weekly) have become commonplace because they are often cleaned and disinfected unlike conventional contact lenses. The need for frequent replacement by the user is of course required to maintain a large number of lenses for supply in the case of conventional contact lenses. Therefore, it is best to keep the size of the package as small as possible, so that the user can easily open the package to take out the lens, and on the other hand, it is easy for the user to carry most of these packages around (for example, in a pocket, in a wallet, Or in the briefcase). How to carry out the effective handling and subsequent management of these most disposable contact lens packages by the user is an extremely important evaluation criteria for packaging design, especially for frequent lens replacement.
A package and contact assembly for a contact lens that is lost after use is disclosed in the present invention. A single package has a flange with a well for retaining the contact lens in solution. A soft upper cover is attached to the periphery of the well for sealing the lens and solution to the well. The user can easily peel off the upper cover sheet from the flange to obtain the lens housed in the well. The first and second brackets extend in a relative manner in a direction perpendicular to the flange. The stent forms a stable support for packaging on a flat surface like a table top.
Each bracket contains a large wall and a small wall on a plane that is often isolated and parallel to each other, but large and small walls may also be interconnected or may be in one or more contact with the plane.
Further disclosed components further comprise a second package having a shape substantially the same as the first package, the first and second packages being detachably assembled to each other and utilizing the respective first and second holders to each other The fixing of the meshing method.
Referring to Figures 1 through 7, the first contact lens package 10 comprises a base member 12 preferably formed of a plastic material such as polypropylene, although other materials may be used as desired. The base member 12 is preferably formed in one piece by a sputtering process. To provide a reference point, the mark 〝F〞 indicates the front of the package 10. Where 〝R〞 denotes the rear part, and S 1 and S 2 ' denote the opposite sides of the package (Fig. 1). The base member 12 includes a flange 13 (Fig. 7) having a top surface 14a and its opposite bottom surface 14b. The flange 13 extends from the periphery 16a of the well 16 and has a suitable shape and size sufficient to receive the contact lens 20 and an appropriate amount of solution 22 therein, while the upper cover 18 (1B, 1C, 4 and 5) is sealed Until the time of access. The well periphery 16a is formed with a raised surface 16b against which the upper cover sheet 18 is partially sealed (typically by pressure and/or heating) with the remaining unsealed remaining upper cover sheets. As shown in Figs. 1A and 1D, a narrow edge 16c is formed between the rising surface 16b and the well periphery 16a. At the time of sealing, if the rising surface 16b is pressed, it will expand as shown in Fig. 16b ' . By virtue of the presence of the narrow edge 16c, the lens 20 is prevented from slipping out of the well 16 without being obstructed by the riser 16b ' , so that the lens is protected from possible damage.
In the described embodiment of the present embodiment, the flange 13 having an outer periphery 13 ', which is preferably a substantially straight shape parallel opposite sides S 1, S 2, and curved shaped front portion F and the rear portion R, the opposite ends F 'And R' are positioned along the maximum length L M A X of the base member 12 (Figs. 3 and 6). When placed on a flat surface such as the surface 40 (Figs. 4 and 5), it is preferable that the front end F' contacts the flat surface 40 and the rear end R' stands upright (Fig. 3).
In one aspect of the invention, the well 16 is sized to substantially position the lens 20 in its center portion and is shaped to provide a user with an intuitive understanding of how to slide the lens 20 out of the well 16. More specifically, the shape of the well 16 is substantially symmetrical about the X and Y axes, and its radius of curvature R 1 along the X axis is greater than the radius of curvature R 2 along the Y axis. The well 16 together with the well periphery 16a tapers inwardly from the center of the well 16 (X and Y intersect at this point) for the X-axis to form a tapered slope inwardly toward the front F. The user can intuitively slide the lens 20 out of the well 16 along the ramp if he sees the tapered ramp.
In one aspect of the invention, the well 16 is sized to substantially position the lens 20 in its center portion, while being shaped to provide a user with an intuitive understanding of how to slide the lens 20 out of the well 16, more particularly The shape of the well 16 is substantially symmetrical about the X-axis, and the perimeter 16a tapers inward from the center of the well 16 (where X and Y intersect) to form a tapered slope inwardly toward the front F, and the well is made 16 becomes the entire oval appearance. If the user sees this tapered slope, he can intuitively slide the lens 20 out of the well 16 along the ramp. The oval bottom of the well 16 is slightly flat and the radius of curvature of the side sills is substantially the same around the perimeter.
R'。In another aspect of the invention, the base member 12 includes first and second brackets 24, 26 that extend from the flange 13 and are disposed opposite each other (Fig. 2). Each of the brackets 24, 26 includes a large wall 28a, b and a small wall 30a, b, respectively. The large walls 28a, b are located at a generally spaced plane parallel to the small walls 30a, b, although they may overlap, contact or intersect at one or more points, as indicated by 32a, b (Fig. 7). In one embodiment, each of the small walls 30a, b tapers inwardly and terminates at dots 30a', b'. In still another embodiment, each of the large walls 28a, b includes a linear edge 28a', b' for supporting the base member 12 when placed on a flat surface 40 such as a table top (Figs. 4 and 5). In still another embodiment, the large walls 28a, b each include a beveled edge 28c, d that forms an angle "a" with the adjacent side edges 30c, 30d of the small walls 30a, b in side view. In still another embodiment, the linear edges 28a', b' are each mixed into the curved wall portions 28e, f, the bottom edges of which extend upwardly from the flange 13 and terminate at the rear end R'.
Referring to Figure 7, one or more ribs 35a-b can be formed on the inwardly facing surfaces of the large walls 28a, 28b to enhance rigidity and strength.
12。In yet another embodiment, the flange 13 is slightly curved downwardly at the front portion F of the package 10 to form the tongue 13a. Preferably, the length L 1 of the well 16 is slightly the same as the length L 2 of the tongue 13a when viewed from above (Fig. 6), although this may vary. The curvature of the tongue portion 13a allows the user to grasp with the index finger and the female finger, the index finger pressing against the lower side of the tongue portion 13a and the female finger resting on the top surface of the tongue portion 13a. The tongue 13a gently surrounds the finger, and the finger is more able to lean against the mirror wall portions 30a, 30b with a apex to securely and comfortably hold the package with the left or right hand. The upper cover sheet 18 masks substantially all of the flange 13, and includes a tongue portion 13a (Figs. 1B, 4, 5). In order to take out the lens 20 from the well 16 first, the user first lifts the front portion F of the upper cover 18 (Fig. 1C), and then peels off the upper cover sheet 18 from the rising surface 16b. This can be easily accomplished by grasping and pulling the cover sheet 18 with one hand, and on the other hand, the base member 12 is held at the same time with the other hand as described above.
20。In another aspect of the invention, the tongue portion 13a may include a through hole 13b, and the unsealed portion of the upper cover sheet 18 thereon may be pressed to form the recess 18a in the through hole 13b (Figs. 4 and 5). This can provide an interference fit between the unsealed portion of the upper cover sheet 18 and the flange tongue 13a when the lens 20 is stored in the well portion 16, which can be relied upon to maintain the unsealed portion of the upper cover sheet 18 properly on the tongue portion 13. When the user wishes to open the package 10, he can depress the dimple 18a from the bottom up by pressing the dimple 18a from the bottom up. As a result, the upper cover sheet 18 is easily lifted from the flange 13 and the raised surface 16b is peeled off to expose the well 16 and the lens 20 therein.
The center of gravity design of the package 10 is located closer to the rear portion R than the front portion F. This is especially important when the package 10 is temporarily stacked vertically during the manufacturing process (all in the same direction). When stacked in this manner (not shown), the upper packaged holders are placed on the flanges 13 of the lower package, but the tongues remain isolated from one another. If the center of gravity is close to the front F, the upper package may be tilted and the stacking of the package is unstable. If the center of gravity is located near the rear portion R, the front portion of the package will not pick up and be stably stacked.
In still another aspect of the present invention, a package assembly 50 is disclosed that includes first and second packages 10, 100 that are detachable in a mutually detachable manner (Figs. 8-15). The portion of the package 100 with the first portion of the package 10 is incremented by the component 100. Since the second package 100 is essentially identical to the first package 10. So a detailed description of the 100 part of the second package is not required.
In order to releasably combine the first and second packages 10, 100, the bottom surfaces 14b, 114b are disposed in an opposing relationship with the wells 16, 116, while the wells 16, 116 are in a side-to-side relationship. Configuration. In this direction, the first package 10 is rotated 180° to the second package 110. The brackets 24, 26 and 124, 126 of each package are engaged with the corner edges 28c, 28d of the major walls 28a, 28b of the first package 10, the corner edges 28c, 28d and the major walls 128a of the second package 10. And 128b are configured in an adjacency relationship. The mirror walls 30a, 30b of the first package 10 are coplanar, but are located within the large walls 28a, 28b, 128a, 128b (i.e., toward the wells 16, 116) in a spaced relationship. When the packages 10, 100 are combined (see Figures 8, 11 and 12), the small walls 28a, 28b and 128a, 128b are hidden from view. The frictional engagement of the stents of the packages 10, 110 allows the package to be handled as a unit, but can be easily separated as needed.
In the preferred embodiment, the packages 10 and 110 are in the manner of assembly, and the periphery of the package assembly 50 (defined as a large wall, a large wall bend, and the front and rear ends of each combined package) is as in the eighth. Figure 12 is completely enclosed. To form a fully enclosed perimeter, the lowest edge of the entire perimeter of the first package 10 must be arranged to closely align with the lowest edge of the entire perimeter of the second package 110. This can be achieved by making the front F curvature of the package the inverse of the curvature of the same package back R. In this manner, the package F is rotated 180° against the second reverse direction by a package, the front portion F of a package 10 conforming to the rear R profile of the package 100 with which it is coupled, and vice versa. The assembled package assembly 50 is easy to handle, attractive and easy to use.
