1364746 九、發明說明: 【發明所屬之技術領域】 本發明係有關一種顯示系統,特別是關於一種具有背 光調節的顯示系統及其調節方法。
V 【先前技術】 以電池為電源之可攜式電子裝置,例如行動電話、個 人數位助理(PDA)、數位相機及數位攝影機等,主要的功 I 率消耗來自顯示系統,而顯示系統中又以背光裝置的消耗 功率最大,為了減少顯示系統的消耗功率以延長電池壽 命,提出使背光變暗以減少背光裝置的消耗功率,以及增 加顯示面板的穿透率以維持相同的亮度的技術,此技術即 為所謂的背光調節(backlight scaling)技術。以穿透式薄膜 電晶體液晶顯示(TFT-LCD)系統為例,在TFT-LCD面板上 觀察到的亮度L與背光亮度(backlight luminance)b及 φ TFT-LCD面板的穿透率t(x)的關係為 L=t(x) . b 公式 1 其中’穿透率t(x)為像素值X的函數。背光裝置消耗的功 率與背光亮度b成強烈正相關,亦即背光亮度b越大所消 耗的功率就越多,相反地,TFT-LCD面板的消耗功率幾乎 疋固定的而與其穿透率t(x)無關,藉由背光調節降低背光 亮度b減少消耗功率,以及增加TFT-LCD面板的穿透率 1364746 b=|以避免下-訊框的像素資料經背光調節後超出〇〜255 的範圍造成影像失真。在此範例中,f光亮度由丨減少為 吾,故消耗功率減少為原來的1。 2 在實把例中,訊框的像素由紅色、綠色及藍色次像 素構成,顯示面板250包括TFT_LCD面板,背光裝置· 包括由白光光源及彩色濾光片組成的白背光裝置,其中白 光光源包括冷陰極螢光燈(CCFL)、白光發光二極體 (WLED)、白光有機發光二極體(w〇led)或由紅色、綠色 及藍色光源混合產生的白光,以及訊框的像素資料 X包括 ’時間控制器22()統計訊框的像素灰階值產生該像 值的直方圖’並根據該灰階值的直方圖產生白光背 = 次像素的亮度經由白光背光亮度
