Abstract

There is provided an image-type method for counting the number of people passing through an entrance, which makes use of a camera to capture image for achieving the purpose of counting the number of people passing through an entrance via computer visual image processing. After obtaining the image captured by the monitor camera, the system first uses camera lens image correction technique to correct the deformed image caused by a wide-angle lens into the image with actual line length and ratio. Then, a Gaussian mixed model is used to establish an image background for finding the moving persons in the frame. Further, multi-people tracking algorithm is employed to record the walking route of each person in the frame. The characteristic values of the moving person in the image, such as the length, width, area, color and so on, are then applied to a support vector classification machine to analyze the number of people, thereby accurately computing the number of people passing through an entrance.
