Abstract
To provide a process for producing a light diffusing film having excellent heat resistance and light transmittance of biaxially oriented film origin, and having excellent mechanical strength and light transmissivity, and a light diffusing film obtained therefrom. The process for producing a light diffusing film is characterized in that the light diffusing film having a light diffusing layer obtained by biaxially stretching an unextended sheet which consists of a mixture comprising 50 to 99% by mass of a crystalline polyester and 1 to 50% by mass of a light diffusing additive, and the above biaxial stretching is conducted at a stretch ratio in longitudinal and transversal directions of 2.5 times or more respectively and at a stretch velocity of less than 300%/sec. The light diffusing film is characterized in that it is made by the above process and has a total light transmissivity, of 85% or more, a haze of 50% or more, a dimensional change ratio at 150° C in the longitudinal and transversal directions of 3% or less respectively, and a tensile strength in the longitudinal and transversal directions of 100 MPa or more.
