Abstract
To provide a method for manufacturing meso-carbon microbeads, which is narrow in particle size distribution, spherical and smooth in surface, with good yield. The meso-carbon microbeads is produced by heat-treating a mixture, which is a mixture of carbonaceous component (1) and carbonaceous component (2) with lower aromatic property than the carbonaceous component (1), and the ration Fa2/Fa1 of aromatic carbon of fraction Fa2 of the carbonaceous component (2) to the aromatic carbon fraction Fa1 of the carbonaceous component (1) is less than 0.95. Said carbonaceous component (1) may be constituted by one selected from coal/tar or coal/tar pitch. In addition, said carbonaceous component (2) may be constituted by, for example, an ethylene bottom oil, a decant oil, an asphaltene, or a pitch using these as material. The proportion of carbonaceous component (1) and carbonaceous component (2) may be, for example, the former/the latter (weight ratio) = 99/1~30/70.
