Abstract
A method and corresponding device to measure the dynamic errors of rotary axes in five-axis CNC machine tools. This method uses the popular double ball bar (DBB) as measurement device, but with some improvements to avoid interference. With this method, only the two rotary axes of the target five-axis machine tool are driven during the circular test, while the other three linear axes remain stationary. There is no error coupling between the linear and the rotary axes. During the circular test, the rotary axes show velocity reversals one after another. The method measures both static and dynamic errors of the rotary axes.
