Abstract

Nucleic acid molecules were isolated from Sorangium cellulosum, which encodes the polypeptides necessary for the biosynthesis of the epothilone. Methods for producing epothilone in recombinant host cells transformed with the genes of this invention are described herein. In this way, epothilone is produced in a sufficiently large amount to provide its purification and use in pharmaceutical formulations for cancer treatment.
