Abstract

A hanging type painting apparatus (10) has a post (11) hanging through an opening (920) formed in an upper surface of a tank (800), a main body (12) which is movable up and down along the post and is rotatable about the post, a storage portion (101) which stores therein dimensional data of the tank, a calculation portion (102) which calculates the shortest distance between each of a plurality of monitoring points arranged entirely over the main body of the painting apparatus and the tank whose data is stored in the storage portion, at a predetermined cycle, and an operation stopping portion (103) which stops the operation of the main body of the painting apparatus when at least one of the shortest distances calculated by the calculation portion is smaller than a predetermined value. With this structure, stable painting without damaging the inner surface of the cargo tank or the supply portion can be carried out.
