Abstract
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To appropriately leak combustion gas so as to suppress friction by providing shallow leak grooves for communicating the outer circumferential face with the internal circumferential face of a ring in a plurality of positions in the bottom face or top/bottom faces of the piston ring at same intervals. SOLUTION: Radial and shallow leak grooves 3 for communicating the outer circumferential face with the internal circumferential face of a piston ring are provided in the bottom 13 of the piston ring 1 in four positions on the circumference of the piston ring at approximately same intervals and an abutment part 2 is set to a gastight abutment part. Combustion gas is leaked from the top face of the piston ring 1 through the internal circumferential face to the bottom of the piston ring 1 via the leak grooves 3 as shown an arrow. The leak grooves 3 are provided in the bottom 13 of the piston ring 1 and not in the outer circumferential face so that combustion gas is appropriately leaked with little friction, the life of the piston ring can be elongated, and the internal combustion engine can be efficiently operated.
