Abstract
In a system for determining fat and protein in biological materials, esp. milk, by UV irradiation of a test cell filled with the biological material, a closure element (3) is provided in the beam path between the radiation source (1) and the test cell (4) to allow beam passage only during a measurement carried out by detectors (8) arranged at locations of the requisite wavelengths for fat and protein determination. The locations are defined by a stationary imaging grating (7) of a polychromator system. The polychromator system pref. comprises an inlet slit (5), a lens (6) and a concave imaging grating (7). The detectors may be in the form of a photodiode or CCD linear array (8) coupled to evaluation electronics (9). ADVANTAGE - Use of UV in place of IR measurement allows flexible (quasi-)simultaneous wavelength selection and time and cost savings.
