Abstract

A locking device 3 for securing and stretching a cover tarpaulin 1 on a vehicle flap comprises a mounting plate 6 which is fixed on the flap and with which a first pivot arm 6 is connected via a first hinge 5, which arm 6 is in turn connected to a second pivot arm 8 via a second hinge 7 remote from the first one. This pivot arm 8 has a hook 9 for releasable connection to the lower edge of the cover tarpaulin. The first pivot arm 6 can pivot between an initial position located on one side of the first hinge 7, in which position the second arm 8 can be coupled to or released from the tarpaulin, and a position on the other side of the first hinge 5, directed obliquely downwards from this, in which position the arm 6 bears against a stop 13. In this pivoting, the second hinge 7 describes a circular arc movement during which it passes a dead centre, after which the arm is automatically held pressed against the stop 13 by means of the inherent elasticity of the cover tarpaulin 1. <IMAGE>
