Abstract

A dilatation catheter is provided wherein a shaft (S) of the catheter comprises a tube (1) of braided material having a uniform coating (2) on the outer surface thereof. The catheter has a major portion of its length over which the braided material has more picks per unit length than it has over a minor portion (3), whereby the said minor portion is inflatable in response to the application of an inflating fluid thereto, and said major portion is not. The shaft (S) further comprises an inner tube (4, 6) of impervious elastic material located inwardly of the tube (1) of braided material and extending over the length of the catheter, and/or the major and minor portions are coniguous and the outer coating (2) is bonded to the tube (1) of braided material. <IMAGE>
