Abstract

This invention relates to a sorting and strip insertion method for sawn timber, in which method the pieces of sawn timber which are of different shapes and/or qualities are separated from one another and stacked bundles are formed from the batches of sawn timber sorted in this manner. According to the invention, this is carried out in such a way that the most frequent individual shape or quality is taken to one or more conveyors (6) which serve as a separate intermediate store and that the next most frequent shapes and/or qualities of sawn timber are placed in separate boxes (1, 2, 3, 4) according to their shape and/or quality, and that the pieces of sawn timber which occur infrequently and/or require more precise sorting are taken to a sorting conveyor (7), where they are sorted by hand, the fully sorted batches of sawn timber then being fed from all the collecting points (6; 1, 2, 3, 4; 7) to the strip insertion machine (11). <IMAGE>
