Abstract

The submersible pump is mounted on the bottom of a vessel and coupled to a discharge pipe via an easily detachable joint, so that it can be lifted out for maintenance. The joint contains a non-return valve comprising a thin plate clamped between the pump and pipe flanges, and supporting a hinging flap working against a seat. The seat encloses an aperture of smaller area than that of the pipe. The valve can be fitted and removed separately.
