Abstract

A vehicle wheel trim member, which may be a hub cap (18) or wheel cover, has a spring steel ring (36) on the inboard face thereof adapted to engage the wheel mounting nuts (20) or studs to releasably retain the trim member on the wheel, the ring being mounted on the trim member by means of portions of the ring radially movably located in slots (34) in the trim member such that the retention forces generated by the flexed ring are absorbed by the studs, and the trim member having circumferentially spaced abutments to engage the studs or nuts to prevent relative rotation between the trim member and wheel. As illustrated the trim member has tubular projections (28) which fit over the nuts to limit relative rotation, and the ring (36) passes though slots (34) in the inside face of the projections (28) to engage grooves (40) in the nuts. Alternatively the ring may engage the nuts from the radially outer side. The ends of the ring (36) may be fixed together or connected by means of a tensioning cam mechanism. <IMAGE>
