Abstract

A concrete foot structure for posts or a concrete post plinth (4) is intended to form a stiffening element or foundation element for a post (1) made, for example, of wood or concrete. The foot structure or plinth is provided with a fracture mechanism arranged to facilitate shearing of the foot structure or plinth when subjected to horizontally acting forces, for example when in collision with a motor vehicle. The fracture mechanism comprises a thin plastics plate (6) cast in situ with the foot structure or plinth. The plate can be used as a distance and holder means for reinforcing rods (5) when casting the foot structure or plinth.
